Some blissful moments in the foggy fairytale Fanal Laurisilva Forest. This forest is one of the last laurel forests in the world. Tens of millions of years ago, a large part of southern Europe was covered with this type of forest, but due to the ice age and forest clearing, almost all laurel forests have disappeared. The old laurel trees often have very strange shapes and are covered with up to 20 different types of mosses.

Well I sort of apologise here after having this crazy dream of Maria Island and as I spent virtually all night working on this crazy dream I thought I'd better at least share it for the good or for the bad of it !.

A replica of one of the three ships that Christopher Columbus led to the Americas in 1492, the Nao Santa Maria is one of nearly a dozen vessels that are part of the 2019 Tall Ship Celebration this weekend in Bay City, Michigan. It is shown here approaching Bay City on the Saginaw River last Thursday, and was processed in a vintage style for Sliders Sunday. Unfortunately, it wasn't under sail when photographed, and yes, I realize that the occupants aren't exactly wearing period clothing either. Oh well. :-)

The AVIF image compression (in the HEIF container) is a very promising format as it provides good image quality in a very small package and is (in comparison to HEIC) free of any licenses. I hope Flickr as well as Google and Microsoft products will soon have full support for this innovation.
Besides the high compression efficiency the big advantage over JPEG is that a color depth per channel of 10 and even 12 bit is supported.

maria-sem-vergonha, cientificamente conhecida como Impatiens walleriana, é uma planta nativa da África Oriental. Ela pertence à família das Balsaminaceae e foi descoberta pelo botânico inglês Richard Anthony Salisbury no final do século XVIII.
Desde então, a maria-sem-vergonha tem sido amplamente cultivada em todo o mundo, graças à sua beleza e facilidade de cultivo.
Die Stiftskirche Mariä Himmelfahrt in Obermedlingen ist Teil des ehemaligen Klosters Obermedlingen. Im Jahre 1700 wurde der Grundstein für den Neubau des ehemaligen Klosters und der heutigen Stiftskirche gelegt. Die Kirche wurde 1721 vom damaligen Augsburger Weihbischof Johann Jakob Mayer geweiht, obwohl die Ausstattung noch nicht fertiggestellt war.
Die Ausstattung ist in einem vornehmen frühbarocken Weiß gehalten, zu dem die Altäre, Beichtstühle, Sitzreihen, das Chorgestühl, die Orgel und die Kanzel aus dunkelbraunem Holz einen harmonischen Kontrast bilden. Äußerst beachtenswert sind die Intarsienarbeiten. Die großen Gemälde und Fresken an der Decke schuf Konrad Huber 1784. Davon ist allerdings nur noch das Deckengemälde im Chor erhalten, da ein Teil des Langhausgewölbes 1861 einstürzte. Die heutigen neobarocken Deckengemälde im Langhaus schuf 1894/1896 der Münchner Maler Josef Huber-Feldkirch. Der Deckenstuck ging 1861 ebenfalls verloren, aber die verbliebenen, überaus reichen Stuckaturen im Chor und der Sakristei zeugen von großem Können und sind von hoher Qualität, sodass das Wirken Dominikus Zimmermanns angenommen wird.
Der Außenbau ist durch den weithin sichtbaren, 73 Meter hohen Kirchturm mit Doppelzwiebelhaube besonders imponierend. Er ist der höchste Kirchturm Nordschwabens. Beeindruckend ist auch die Gestaltung der Westfassade der Kirche.
