The Stork-Billed Kingfisher - Pelargopsis capensis - is a large tree kingfisher (approximately 35cm in length) also known as the Brown-Headed Stork-Billed Kingfisher. Tree Kingfishers are short-tailed large-headed compact birds with long pointed bills and, although a Kingfisher, this species is not a fish specialist, it will eat fish but it primarily hunts frogs, crabs, rodents and young birds. Found in India and Southeast Asia, it lives in a variety of wooded habitats near lakes, rivers, or coasts, making its nest in river banks, decaying trees, or tree termite nests. Not the best picture but the difficult light and being on a small boat on the Mapusa River in Goa, India, didn't help.

This is the beautiful Booted Eagle - Hieraaetus pennatus - (also classified as Aquila pennata), which is a medium sized Eagle about the size of a Common Buzzard. It is a mostly migratory bird living in much of Europe and wintering in the tropics of Asia and Africa. Its name relates to the fact that its legs are totally feathered right down to its feet. They will eat pretty much anything from insects up to medium sized birds, mammals and lizards. This one was seen and photographed from a boat on the Mapusa River in Goa, India.

Organisers of the Goa Carnaval 2010 at Mapusa feverishly check and counter check their listings of the various floats and entries taking part in the parade.
Shot from a window slightly higher then the lady in the foreground who was speaking to her very attractive daughter in the same room holding the tabs and placards and the rather suspicious photographer from out of the state.
This is so that we not forget that there are many whose efforts go unsung while the clowns, floats and the dancers take all the limelight. I bet sometimes we got to sing for the ones working behind the scenes.

As we neared the end of an early morning bird watching trip, we came across this fisherman quietly tending to his nets hoping to catch something good for breakfast and, as we watched, we noticed a little visitor with the same idea, If you look carefully you'll find it ;-) This is one from our trip to India last year and was shot from a moving boat on the Mapusa River at Charao island, Goa

The Common Kingfisher - Alcedo atthis - is an amazingly beautiful little bird and is always a delight to spot with its iridescent blue back feathers, orange underparts and white neck patches. There are seven subspecies of this lovely creature, this one having been seen in Goa, belongs to bengalensis which live and breed in Southern and Eastern Asia from India to Indonesia, China, Korea, Japan and eastern Mongolia. Eating, as its name suggests, mainly small fish and needing 14 to 15 minnows a day to survive, it will also take aquatic insects such as dragonfly larvae and water beetles, and, in winter when food may be scarcer, crustaceans including freshwater shrimps. Seen on the Mapusa River, Goa, India

With some spare time on my hands decided to play around with learning some photo manipulation using gimp. Manipulation is a distinct art form. Welcome suggestions , criticism from all. Will learn from it.

This is such a breathtaking view! When I took the pic (ultra-long exposure with my D70) I only hat to think about the song "Ocean of light"...
Best viewed large!!! (Hi Res)
Because of the long exposure the cars look like floating blood in venes of that city...

The beautifully coloured White-Throated Kingfisher is widespread throughout Asia from Turkey through to the Philippines. Also known as the Smyrna Kingfisher or White-Breasted Kingfisher, they will, aside from the obvious fish, also eat tadpoles, grasshoppers, insects, lizards, frogs, crabs and pretty much any small creature which they can catch and kill. Perching on any prominent branch, wire, rooftop, pole etc. they have a loud call, especially in breeding season, when they will burrow into river banks to nest and lay their eggs. Shot from a moving boat on the Mapusa River in Goa, India.

Trawlers berthed for the monsoon session along the banks of Mapusa River. Testing out the D750, will probably need to have sharpening settings adjusted a bit in camera
Any recommendations on D750 in camera settings always welcome from users of the D750

This pic is equal to another user´s pic of the "millions of them" - group.
This is the southstreet-seaport in eastern downtown area of Manhattan.
I was sitting on a bench and saw the natural shapes of that wooden beam on the peer. So I put my sunglasses on it to mix it with some metal-modern shapes. Also the difference in the colors and sharpness was interesting to me. I underlined that by adding a fake "LOMO-effect" with photoshop.
Please also see the pic´s notes. They´re for the Group Virtual World Interactive and let you go through the scene virtually...
The Brahminy Kite - Haliastur indus - is also known as the Singapore Bald Eagle and, in Australia, the Red-Backed Sea Eagle. Mainly found across the Indian subcontinent - including Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Southeast Asia - and in Australia. it differs from other Kite species by having a rounded tail rather than a forked tail. As scavengers, they will find food anywhere and anyhow, feeding mainly on dead fish, crabs, frogs rodents and reptiles, it will also hunt live prey such as fish on the waters surface, bats and hares and will even steal food from other birds. This one was seen in a tree on the banks of the Mapusa River in Goa, India and shot from a moving boat.

At the carnevale in Goa, ,much dancing and revelry. Lots of people watching, lots participating. It is a fanfare of fun and light heartedness that descends on the taciturn Goan existence.
Yes Goa has its beaches, its fantastic Indo Portuguese food, its air of sussegaado and that chill factor of not bothering you. That is a given.
Most people are, however, serious and reserved. This is one fun event where people wear a lot of smiles.

A girl sits in the hot sun at the Mapusa garden near the starting point of the the Goa carnaval / carnival. Her burnished glowing skin was easy to handle with the light metering of the camera and thankfully there was nothing white she was wearing, (sans the walking gear).
She had a most striking presence and I hope this conveys that. An ethnic beauty of the dark and smoldering variety who would prove that there is no truth in the fairness creams of the multinationals She was a part of the performers for this tableaux for some energy drink and had the largest number of dancing boys and girls doing the cheer leading kind of popular routine of the carnaval.
And I do not have her name or telephone number to tell her that she is now on Flickr.

Crazy house in Cincinnati, OH, close to Hyde Park. I want to meet, or at least see the person that decided to make their house look like this. This is my most interesting and most favourited photo!

Some more on the performers getting ready for the carnaval. The theme is about keeping Goa green..oops clean. Something that is hard to do.
Goa is now overflowing with waste alongwith its other bounties that nature has bestowed on her. It also has perhaps the moniker of being the most corrupt state in India, thanks mainly to its politicians.

Getting ready for the carnival. This is in Mapusa on Day 4 where I managed to reach earlier and take these preparation shots of the performers. The khaki uniform is the symbol of traditional government work force in India. It denotes everything governmental.
Here these guys are representing the workers of the municipality for keeping cities and villages clean.
Goa was blessed with an abundant nature full of trees and rolling hills and great beaches. Now with time the population size has become hard to manage. Goa is now overflowing with waste alongwith its other bounties that nature has bestowed on her. It also has perhaps the moniker of being the most corrupt state in India, thanks mainly to its politicians.
The municipal councils and the politicians that run this state have not put in any waste disposal system till date and it is an open season of corruption and degradation.

As I said in the introducion New York isn´t only a nice, colorful and easy city. This pic is supposed to show another page of its story. NYC is a very hard place to survive. Some people can reach their personal "american dream" and some people can´t! BUT they´ ve tried it, like this man. It´s a pity but he wasn´t successful. Especially in NYC the distance between rags and richies is very close. There is less space between... This Pic puts emphasis on that fact by showing the homeless man in front of that red Porsche. The "normal" life flows by without a notice (represented by the yellow cab).
This pic is a part of my "NYC-The Mission 2005" set...
This rickshaw was driving on TimesSquare. I used the "motion-capture" technique during exposure to underline the speed by unsharpen the background. (I didn´t use photoshop for that!)
