This was taken last night (23 Jun 09) I was just driving into Magdala Road, Mapperley Park, Nottingham and was confronted with this sight! I just had to stop and shoot!
When I did this I thought of "Adrian's Art" !!

Sam, Amy and Dangerous Dave went along to Mapperley Plains Primary for this weeks School Assembly Tour, Sammy the Hamster joined them to create some hamster havoc!!
Looking down from the former alter: notice how, on sunny days, the stainglass windws still caste a familiar shadow on the floor, a shadow seen in many churches on sunny days.

pre 1908 .The " Fletcher Photo " postcard from which the picture above is reproduced seems to have been taken during a very overcast and gloomy deep winter's day .
Sky Blue Line 61 at the Calverton, St Wilfrids Square Terminus for Nottingham City Centre via Woodborough, Lambley, Gedling Country Park, Mapperley Plains, Mapperley Shops & Woodborough Road.
Due to emergency roadworks on Woodborough Road the 61 is diverting via Mansfield Road, Redcliffe Road and Mapperley Road
Looking towards where the alter once stood. Notice how the whole floor is covered in dried encrusted pigeon droppings together with dead pigeons as well.
Having to walk 'over the top' of Mapperley Tunnel on Saturday 27th March 1971 gave me the opportunity to photograph this brick 'chimney' which tops the middle ventilation shaft for the tunnel below.

I would say this was the most interesting diversion while the Nottingham Forest celebrations took place in the Old Market Square. Sky Blue 45 operates its normal route until Victoria Centre where it turned right, rather than carrying on straight ahead, to terminate at the Cornerhouse.
434 demonstrates this as it is seem climbing up North Church Street from Gedling via Woodborough Road and Mapperley.
Due to roadworks on Ramsey Drive, NCT were diverting their 56/7/X via Gedling Road, Mapperley Plains & Coppice Road.
This was Fothergill's own house, designed by himself. Building began in March 1871 and he moved in with his family in March 1872. The house was demolished in 1968.
I saw this building today and was certain that it was once a Chapel, but I was wrong. According to Wright's Directories of 1894 and 1913 it was just a single house; a big one at that. It is not called Ellis House in the directories. It is now flats and the 2-bed ones sell for about £185,000.
One of the batch of 41 nice tidy AEC Regent IIIs (KTV301-341) delivered around 1949/50, and I think Nottingham's first 8ft wide buses. Conductor just stepping onto the platform, driver about to climb into cab. Ding-ding, and away to Beeston (Imperial Road) via Castle Boulevard. Taken about 1963. In the background a Regent V is waiting at the route 31 Mapperley stop.
Looking down, the stairwell that still leads to the former chapel. Notice how the whole area has become encrusted with dried pigeon droppings.
In 1972 I moved into a small one-room bedsit in Mapperley Park, Nottingham. The rent was £4.00 a week. This was the kitchen - it wasn't easy washing up in the sink (washbasin). The toilet was across the landing and in the communal bathroom you had to put a shilling in the meter to get hot water from the gas water heater. In the civil service, I earned £757 after tax in the 1972 tax year (£14 per week) so £4 a week rent paying for gas, electricity and food didn't leave much money for living so to speak.
A hit from a car, or the work of some bored kids? I've seen this on the way to work for the last couple of days. Today I had my camera, and quickly snapped it through the car window. When I drove past later on the way home, it had gone...

A bleak afternoon wasn't really conducive to landscape photography but a little long exposure and a polarising filter made the best of the situation.
The exact purpose of the tower on this house is unknown. However, because Blyth Street is at one of the highest points in Mapperley, the view south east over Thorneywood towards the city must have been, and still will be, tremendous.

With no work for me during my split on 17th February 2021, I settled down for a boring day of waiting around before my afternoon stint, and took a wander around the Garage to see what was in.
915 is particularly important to me as a busman, as the first NCT bus I drove at Langar Aerodrome, and the bus in which I passed my test on 17th December 2020 after a nail-biting drive around Netherfield, Mapperley, Sherwood and the Nottingham Ring Road which saw me pass first time with only a minimal number of 'minors'.
