Gedling Station was on the Great Northern Railway's Derbyshire and Staffordshire line from Colwick to Derby Friargate and Egginton Junction, Staffs. The line (and this station) opened in 1875 and provided a through route for trains from Derby to Grantham and the East Coast, avoiding Nottingham. In 1960 the main line was closed to both passenger and freight traffic when Mapperley Tunnel, north of the station, closed due to mining subsidence. Trains from Colwick continued to run past the Station to Gedling Colliery until that closed in 1991. The track has now been lifted and all trace of the platforms removed. The other side of the building fronts the A6211, Shearing Hill, Gedling.

Branded in colourful striped livery for Derby College contract services, it is waiting time for departure on twice daily service 13 to Mapperley Village.

Haddon Tunnel's fourth shaft is located within the 350 yard long bored section of the tunnel and as such, it's the only shaft not to let in huge amounts of natural light. Light from shaft 3, 2 and 1 can be seen in the distance. A lot of water enters the tunnel at this point, as signified by the calcite deposits that coat the tunnel walls.

As with a lot of open shafts, things have been thrown down this one, although the pile is nothing like the one in Mapperley.

Popped down to Mapperley Wood this afternoon to try some high iso stuff. All in all not to disappointed with the results.

As you walk further into Mapperley Tunnel, more and more of the brick faces have fallen off as a result of water ingress. Although it doesn't show up on the photos, we had to cover our cameras in a plastic bag to prevent them from being hit by the constant drips of water. In places, it felt like we were standing in the rain.

The refuges in this tunnel are mostly in quite poor condition but this refuge, located 95 yards into the tunnel seems to be holding up quite well. The same cannot be said for the tunnel's crown. From this point onwards, iron ribs have been installed to strengthen the arch. This tunnel clearly has some structural issues.

Mapperley Tunnel was a 1,132-yard-long tunnel built by the Great Northern Railway. Closed since the early 1960's, mining subsidence has always been an issue with the tunnel. Part of it (approximately 500 yards) is navigable.

This is the remaining tunnel portal. The other end is buried

The 46 came about last year when Premiere folded. Their Red7.1 connected Nottingham with Woodborough Road, Mapperley, Mapperley Plains, Coppice Road, Arnold Front Street, Dorket Head Farm and Calverton once an hour.

As NCT didn't have a need to run between Arnold and Calverton, as Trent Barton already operate the same way on Calverton Connection every 15 minutes, the route was curtailed to run Nottingham to Arnold only.

144 is seen passing Arnold Asda, having just set off from the 46 terminus on Front Street with a 46 to Nottingham via Mapperley Plains and Mapperley.

NCT/Pathfinder buses at the corner of Wollaton Ave and Shelford Road, Gedling. 44 will be heading to the city and the now defunct 54 to Mapperley.

Sam, Amy and Dangerous Dave went along to Mapperley Plains Primary for this weeks School Assembly Tour, Sammy the Hamster joined them to create some hamster havoc!!

Looking out across rooftops at Mapperley Top in Nottingham. Mapperley is part of the suburban borough of Gedling. Situated on a raised plateau, it overlooks the city giving views of some 18 miles to the River Trent and the power station at Ratcliffe-on-Soar. On clear days and from certain view points, 'Beaver' Castle on the Nottingham - Leicestershire border can also be seen. The area was largely developed during the inter-war period swallowing up many acres of farmland and the old 'coppice' to create the suburb of Mapperley as it largely exists today.

Every weekday, the 15:15 47 & 16:45 46 from Nottingham use an extra bus, any vehicle from Trent Bridge, with todays being 346, looking very out of place in Mapperley!

346 is seen on Mapperley Plains on the 16:45 46 to Woodborough via Mapperley.

After a spirited run from Mapperley through the deserted villages of Lambley, Woodborough and Calverton, we had a couple of minutes to wait time towards the end of the route in the small village of Epperstone which was a golden opportunity for a photo somewhere different.

145 pauses at Chapel Lane with a 47 to Gunthorpe via Lowdham Village and Railway Station.

Owned by a neighbour of my cousin in Mapperley.

A mono(ish) version of a previous upload. Now there's a house at the end of the road where my real father lived. I never really knew him, being adopted at an early age, but I've always had a passion for the countryside and nature. My father was the gamekeeper who lived in this house. Nature or nurture?!?

Due to emergency roadworks on Woodborough Road the 61 is diverting via Mansfield Road, Redcliffe Road and Mapperley Road

During Monday to Friday this week, the 25 is diverted due to Breck Hill Road closed at the top near the Sainsbury's. As a result the service is diverted by staying on Mansfield Road then running the full length of Woodthorpe Road to rejoin Plains Road at The Plainsman.

423 is pictured climbing Woodthorpe Road with an off route 25 to Nottingham via Mapperley, Gedling and Carlton, passing Breck Hill Park on the wrong side to normal.

This view is looking south from near Hucknall Road along the line of the track. Selwyn Close is off to the right in the foreground, and the footbridge is at Gayhurst Road. The site is now occupied by housing - Gorse Court (SK553443). The main line took a dead straight line south from here, all the way to Carrington where it entered Mansfield Road tunnel. The tiny church spire in the distance just below the bridge is St Andrews Church on the corner of Mapperley Road and Mansfield Road, 2 miles away.

Due to roadworks on Woodborough Road, the 60 and 61 towards Nottingham were diverting via Woodthrope Drive, Mansfield Road, Winchester Street and Mapperley Rise.

Wasn't quite quick enough to get a good photo, waiting at The Wells Road, Pink Line 31 bus 349 on Blue Line 40 on its way to City Hospital.

Love the Map placing this spot in Sherwood...I thought this was still Mapperley!!!

Back on the Sigma for tonights uploads, she don't do too bad :)

Mapperley Woods, Derbys.

Efforts were doubled this afternoon after noticing the oldest bus in the fleet could be snapped on two different services which both were required for photos.

330 is seen on Mapperley Plains approaching the Plains Farm Close stop with a 47 to Woodborough via Gedling Country Park and Lambley.

Keystone over the door to the offices of the former Stanley Colliery which was owned by the Mapperley Colliery Company. Sunk in the early 1890s this colliery known locally as 'Nibby Pit'. It closed in 1959 but several of the buildings remain in industrial use.

After a long period of having three spare branded buses every day, the introduction of the 24 has meant only one is now spare meaning spare buses may once again be seen more frequently.

611 is seen passing an eerily quiet Arnold High Street with a 25 to Nottingham via Mapperley, Gedling and Carlton.

Just discovered this! I never even knew I had this picture in my collection until today. Taken back in September 2009 near Gedling School, This was when the red line routes were circular with the 44 to Netherfield, then Mapperley into the city and the 45 doing the opposite direction. This was working the 45 to City via Netherfield at the time.

We returned home from a trip to Nottingham, this afternoon, via Plains Road, Mapperley. I had thought that the Christmas lights would have been taken down over the weekend and that I had missed them for 2019 bot, no, they're still there and looking as splendid as ever! Just a few quick phone-cam shots, between showers. Next stop - Spring!
