Energy Saving Trust is a non-profit organisation jointly funded by the British Government and the private sector in order to help fight climate change by promoting the sustainable use of energy, energy conservation and to cut carbon dioxide emissions in the United Kingdom.

I've been asked to take a picture of the 7 regional managers of the Trust after their meeting in the board room on the 19th of December.

The photoshoot took place in a corner the board room. There was not much place to play with as the table and chairs was taking most of the available space. But it was OK as I only needed to take head shots.

The requirements was a portrait of each of the regional managers in front of a panel displaying the Energy Saving Trust's logo and one other with a neutral background.

Lighting info:

I was using 2 SB-600 speedlights shooting thru white brollies. One at the front camera left as the key light and one at the back camera right for the nice and soft rim light.

I could have used the back flash bare but I wanted the rim light to be soft and large. Also by the use of umbrellas, if my lights did reflect on the panel, the specular reflection would be soft instead of a small and bright spot.

I used my Nikon D300 popup flash as a master to wirelessly trigger the SB-600. Both camera and flashes were set on manual control.

Both managers were very tired after traveling across the country and go to different meetings. So I did my best to discuss and make them laugh and smile in order to get the best of them on that day.

I got an email last night from a friend of mine, Bill McCoy asking for some help. Bill is a refuge manager for the US Fish & Wildlife Service and is responsible for Patoka River National Wildlife Area.

Just north of Francisco, IN is a place called Wheeling Bottoms which is a hotspot for shorebirds and waterfowl and a breeding ground for the endangered Interior Least Tern. Bill's concern was that one of the large lakes in this spot is slated to be converted to a slurry pit by the local coal mine. In order to help all parties involved understand the importance of this area to migrating and breeding birds, Bill needed a picture of a Least Tern utilizing the lake.

Early this morning I headed to the area and began taking some distant shots of Terns from the road since the actual lake is on private property. After about half an hour later, another friend of mine, Chuck Mills arrived with a representative from the Indiana DNR who were also investigating the status of the Least Terns on the lake. The great part is that the DNR has authorization to access the property (God's timing is so good!) and escorted us out for a closer look.

During our brief and careful walk through the area we counted 23 Least Terns and several nests with eggs and/or chicks. One of the chicks had just hatched and was still wet!

In any case, it was a successful morning and will hopefully build a good case for finding an alternate location for the slurry pond in order to protect these little guys.

Good luck Bill!

I don't know if this is legit or not. It looks like something that is given to managers to record criminal or suspicious activity within a restaurant location. It must be old...you would give a digital camera now.

But I can't imagine the manager being able to record much. This is a standard plastic-lens uber-cheap camera. No batteries or flash, manual frame advance, and no ability to change aperture or shutter, you'd have to be shooting with 1600 film to get any type of image indoors.

It has film in the camera! I probably exposed a lot of it, but I'm going to finish the roll.

The name and number of the "Risk Manager" have been purposefully obscured...I have no idea if this camera is part of McDonald's official practices or not, and why get anyone into trouble over a $4 camera?

Don't think these were Fergie's though (there was a youth game on at Deepdale a few days before)
