I managed to latch on to a loaded pellet train this morning and catch him in a few spots. The middle shot is here at Burnett, with the tunnel motor leading a GE and another EMD. It was a cool morning and just enough humidity to let the pellets give off a little steam.

Managed to find a poppy field after lots of looking around and driving aimlessly. Thanks to the girls that assisted with help finding the location. Local knowledge always wins out.

I managed to take my pictures using RAW on my camera without realising and I couldn't work out how to upload... I couldn't see the pictures like usual so I was panicking and thinking noooo dont make me do this again. Time consuming enough as it is.

I have a few days till I start working again so I'm hoping to do lots more in that time.

Well, I managed to get an entry put together, and I think I even have a day to spare. Yay me! So, without further ado, let's get to it.

Name: Sheik

Homeworld: Mirial

Species: Mirialan

Weapon of choice: Energy bow

Affiliation: Separatist/Empire

Era: Clone wars - Imperial age

Backstory:

Orphaned at a young age, Sheik was forced to fend for himself. Ever since he could remember, he had dreamt of leaving his cold and dry homeworld of Mirial. Once he had left, he made his way towards the inner core of the galaxy, taking the odd job as he went. By the time the Clone war had broken, Sheik was already prolific in certain circles. He was famous for his methodology, using an energy bow, instead of a blaster, to strike down his prey. allying himself with the Separatists proved to be a lucrative decision, affording him many chances. During the clone wars, he was rumoured to have killed as many as 30 Jedi, with only his energy bow, and his wits.

When the Clone war ended, his bloodlust still not satisfied, Sheick affiliated himself with the newly formed Galactic Empire, aiding them in hunting what few Jedi remained. renowned across the galaxy for his wits, Sheik quickly came to be known as 'the Predator', using solely his skills and his bow to hunt his prey. He was known to stalk his prey planet to planet if necessary. Sheik is a deadly opponent, and is not one to misjudge his opponent. Be careful not to make the mistake of underestimating him.

So, that's that done and dusted. As always, lemme know what you think :D

Managed to get out for an hour.

This is a early morning street shot in Stow-on-the-Wold

Managed to get in the revamped Kingfisher hide today for the first time, I arrived at around 11.30 and by 3.00 the resident female visited at least 10 times.

Ok the weather was crap but I still managed to bag a few decent images when the clouds thinned every now and again..

Managed to capture, through the reeds, this Juvenile Deer feeding. Always a delight to see these shy deer.

Thanks for viewing, and for any favs/comments.

Having never managed to see an Arizona and California Railroad train, I've now done it twice in a week.

I've spent more than a few hours at Cadiz, perhaps because it has been one of those places where I've gotten lucky with one thing or another, perhaps because I've waited for the four-axles on the BNSF Cadiz local from Barstow.

But never have I seen the A+C train arrive from Parker AZ.

Tick.

It's a pity I didn't manage it in the days before the corporate Genesee and Wyoming look, I'm sure that elderly four-axles in that delicious green and cream looked absolutely sublime in this very spot.

But no matter.

It was non-stop at Cadiz on the TransCon, I barely had time to write my reference notes and there was another train on the horizon.

This was the cherry on the top. And sprinkles!

The locomotives were returned by the BNSF to GE Leasing (GECX) then sold on.

Managed to stack together 11 photos for this !

Manually aligned the images so the bulk of the alignment is around the galactic core. Resulting in a slightly fuzzy outer edge - which allows you to focus more on the core itself :)

Used the Samyang or Rokinon 12mm f2 wide open (at f2) for this photo

This is the most managed creek ever.

Managed to fit a trip to one of the local spots alongside the weekend commitments...nothing too exciting but it was nice to get the camera out :)

I managed this fairly close shot of two Franklin's Gulls by crawling over a sandy, rocky beach for an hour, pushing my tripod ahead of me, two feet at a time. In some situations a painstaking approach is the only thing that will work. This pair watched me the whole time, one of them expressing apparent displeasure at this moment; a moment later, they were both gone.

The lake was teeming with birds in early May. By late May, very few remained. In late October, the place is a staging area for tens of thousands of snow geese, swans, and ducks on their southbound migration.

I managed to get the whole train in a single frame with my 85mm. Because of the distortion and perspective, the train looks like a big metal worm.

Thank you all for your appreciation.

Managed to get this lovely atmospheric image as the moon making a clearing in the clouds

I managed to squeeze in a bit of brick therapy during the past few weeks.

This is small cargo shuttle, that I've been building over the last five weeks or so. This ship is intended to be the space equivalent of a box truck, like this. I imagine this particular ship as having a lot of light-years under its belt, used for longer journeys than originally intended, so there's a hammock in the cargo bay. As I explained above, I had a lot of time to think about this creation, even if I didn't have much time to build or blog. I also imagined the that it might not always have been docked in the nicest of space neighborhoods, so I built after I took some photos, I covered it in graffiti.

. . . Well I managed to break my Snowy Owl curse this morning, found this beautiful female sitting on a dune at Pere Marquette beach, thanks to friends for tipping me off!

The session was spoiled by some idiot with 3 large dogs running the beach NOT on leashes, and the dogs scared her away. Otherwise I would probably still be down there, no wind, great sunshine, and those EYES!

Have a great weekend Facebook, Flickr, and 500px friends!

I managed to get out for a walk around Burrator on Thursday night, the plan was to walk up Sheeps Tor for sunset but when I climb to the top I was uninspired so decided to take a walk around in the woods along the reservior.

I was surprised to find the Blue Bells still out in bloom and stumbling across this small meadow I had to take the picture. There is a small moss covered rock in the picture (I should have been close if I am honest) in a sea of blue and the evening sun shining through the branches.

It's been a fairly rainy and gloomy day here; but that can't keep me inside so at lunch hour I ventured out.

The first place I had wanted to visit today was, much like the rest of this city, under construction so that trail was out.

Luckily I had a back up plan. It wasn't ideal, but it works and who can resist those fall colours?

Anyway, hope everyone managed to stay dry and have a good day!

The smoke from wild fires was so heavy and thick around these parts today that an air quality advisory was issued and people with respiratory issues advised not to go out unless they had to. As I suffer from asthma I stayed pretty much close to home but did manage a stroll down around the docks. It is always good for a photo or two down there. Not sure if I will venture forth tomorrow though as they are saying the smoke will get worse before it gets better.

I managed to get some new Lion Knights' shields. They did not occur in any set! I took a few knights and I just wanted to take some quick photo of them...

Managed to get a shot of the famous Austin Blues legend statue at Butler Park. Tried to get the city skyline behind him with the foliage. Used Lightroom to bring up the shadows and add a vignette on this one.

Managed to snag a bolt piercing through the base while taking frames for a time-lapse.

We managed to get out & enjoy a couple of nice walks in the sunshine but my buddy has had a bit of a rough time of it this week! Barney had a dreaded trip to the vets for a vaccination on Thursday, so he got jabbed and his horrid hooman stopped him from biting the evil vet again! Then on Saturday, he had his first dog fight in a looooong time (he came off worst). The scrap was with dad's partner's BC Hovis, who's quite nervy & anxious about Barney but also rather provocative & annoying. Hovis will do things like follow Barn around for ages, really invading his space, nipping his hocks, then skitter away nervously when he turns around.

For everyone's sanity, I mostly keep them separate when Hovis is here & when the dogs are together, they're watched, praised for calm behaviour & parted if they start getting too tense. Up till now, Barney has generally been restrained in his responses to Hovis but he must've had enough this weekend. There was a brief, loud scuffle, in which Hovis came away with a minor cut on his paw & Barney got bitten in the face a few times :( He's now looking rather the worse for wear. I was initially worried but having cleaned him up, it's clear the cuts are superficial - hopefully they'll heal fast. It was quick & mostly just noise but I still feel really bad they managed to have a fight :( Barney seems fine in himself but he's still had quite a few extra treats & cuddles this weekend! Hoping next week is less... exciting.

Managed a shot if our moon tonight, taken with an iPhone through a very big telescope. Thanks to Dave of York astronomical society for his help.

every time i look at this image i am blown away knowing that it was taken on an iPhone,

Managed to capture Kippie while she was sniffing a plant and trying to fight the mosquito which was flying above her head :)

Have a nice weekeend everybody.

This year, I only managed to create 5 MOCs. Overall, it was a challenging year as I was preparing for university, and I had just completed the first semester of my final year of school. Therefore, I didn't have much time to build anything, and I fear that I will have even less time in the next few years as I'll be trying to establish my adult life.

The building year started with a pretty big project, “The Dragon’s Lair”. I can’t say it was anything original - I always build mountains and stone walls because I don’t really have the bricks or the creativity to do anything else. However, this year I’ve been practicing presenting this and other MOCs. I feel that I am improving in terms of photography and editing, but I am still far from the results I want because I still take photos on my phone and don't spend enough time editing them. However, I must say that Bricknerd’s articles have greatly helped me improve my color choices and presentation. Thank you so much to everyone involved! Also, big thanks to everybody who has helped me on BII server on Discord! Y’all are the best.

Another MOC that I built in May of this year is definitely the one that I am most proud of - “Spring”. I can confidently say that it is my best MOC of all time, so... make sure to check it out :P

This summer, I participated in the Summer Joust 2025 and took part in 3 categories. Unfortunately, I did not have enough time (as always) to build for more but I really enjoyed the categories. My favorite one definitely was “Where No One Dares Go”. I even got an Honorable Mention for this category for the first time of participating in the Summer Joust.

My entry for “Where No One Dares Go”: ”Misterious Forest”

My entry for “Pick your poison”: ”The sun-gilded cliff”. This category is always fun!

My entry for “12x12 Vignette”: ”Yet another house”

Thank you very much to everyone who helped organizing the contest! I hope that I will be able to participate next year, but we’ll see how it goes.

And… These were all the MOCs. I didn't build anything in the autumn, and I most likely won't be able to build anything during the winter holidays.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone! Thanks for the support! I hope that the next year will bring even more inspiring and incredible MOCs from y’all!

I managed to lose the front of my diffuser back in July. I was leaning over the railing on a floating a bridge to shoot a spider and the wind caught it and it fell into the water. It being held together using neodymium magnets is very useful, but obviously I hadn't built it strong enough.

Since there was no one around but my family (this was out in a nature reserve) I decided to strip off and dive for it.

I spent a while there, but my attempts were fruitless so there was not much else to do but go home and build myself a new one.

This is the second test shot taken with version 7 of my diffuser. It had been raining that day and this was in the evening so I had couldn't be too picky with subjects and this acalyptrate fly (Meiosimyza decempunctata) in the neighbour's hedge is perhaps not the most challenging of subjects, but I am please with the results.

Version 7 now have 10 magnets instead of 5 to hold the diffusion sheet so I believe it will be much more weather-safe now.

Managed to make it to the coast this morning. Not to much colour for the sunrise this morning

I managed to capture this beautiful sunset scene over a wheat field near where I live in West Sussex, UK. As I was walking through the field I came across the curved tractor track in the wheat that adds nicely to the foreground. I had to do quite a bit on noise reduction in post production though as it was quite a low light scene.

Managed to drag myself out of bed the other morning to hike down to Hope's Nose and catch the sunrise :)

Managed to get a few snaps of this beautiful field just before it started raining, Plenty of photographers out snapping this so difficult to get one without someone in the picture. I am surprised how lovely it still looks following the recent storms we have had

Managed to get a few shots of Pulpit Rock after a storm had moved through which produced a great array of colours in the sky. This is a 3 shot stitch using the shift on a 24mm tilt shift lens

I managed to get within 20' of this big guy. And I'd of been scared out of my socks, had I not been in my truck at the time. Some times it helps to take a trip to Yellowstone, even during a drought.

There were very few animals in the Park, and just outside the Park the animals I did see looked to be about half starved. We waited a life time to make this trip, and because of the lack of rain everything was pretty much dried out. I pray we get lots of rain this winter. We need to put out all these Fires and fill-up our lakes and reservoirs.

God bless America.

I managed a fast turnaround as this one which was taken yesterday evening 3rd December. I had wanted to take some shots from this location on the Thames foreshore for a while. There have been a few other pictures by others but not many. For a start it requires low tide in the evening and a reasonable day. I had checked tide times and low tide came 40 minutes after sunset and also showers were due to clear to blue skies by the evening which they did just in time. The scene now is very different to earlier pictures with 3 tall new skyscrapers nearing completion on the western side of the Canary Wharf financial district for this view from Rotherhithe. This shot was taken at 4.30 pretty much at low tide and a sandy area was showing going further out into the river. This gave the opportunity to get a composition leading into the image. During the next image exposure though I had to make a fast retreat as a speedy river ferry came by creating a great wave. The surface of the river bank in the area was gravelly or firm sand unlike the quite dangerous deep mud which is present on some parts of the Thames foreshore.

I did some advance research using Street View which includes some parts of the riverside Thames Path to find the stairs down to the foreshore. The area is close to Doubletree Hilton Hotel and going west from there the first alley after the Blacksmiths Arms leads to the steps. These are very slippery with a railing for only part of them so a lot of care was needed. It is not exactly easy to get to. The nearest Underground is Canada Water and then the C10 bus which goes right past.

The picture was taken with a Sony A68 with a Sigma 10-20 zoom at 11mm. 3 raw images 2EV spacing for HDR. The picture was enhanced with HDR processing using contrast optimiser setting in Photomatix for a natural look; Topaz clarity was used for more detail. In Photoshop some adjustments were made to hue saturation to bring down blue saturation for a more natural look and bring up reds and yellows.

Managed to get this Male Crossbill having a drink.

I managed to take a few shots of a semi-cooperative Gecko. I looked down at my camera to adjust the exposure compensation on my flash and when I looked up it was gone.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F14, 1/250, ISO 200) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (set to over 1x) + a diffused MT-26EX-RT with a Kaiser adjustable flash shoe on the "A" head (the key), E-TTL metering, -1 FEC). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Sharpen AI and Clarity in that order.

This pre-lockdown day back in March was the last time I managed to photograph a steam locomotive... GWR Small Prairie 2-6-2T 4555 steams towards Staverton on the South Devon Railway during a Timeline Events photo charter.

Managed to catch up with this little beauty in County Armagh. Yellow Wagtails are pretty rare here, never mind the blue headed form from continental Europe. Beautiful and rare, whats not to like.
