Completely by accident, I stumbled upon this endearing scene outside the observatory in Southport's Hesketh Park

I want you. Or at least I want someone

We posed for a portrait in our back yard while Paul was having a nap. It was just a perfect April day.

Taken at a recent wedding i was hired for, one of the better jobs owing to great weather and fabulous hospitality.

That's all that was needed - just the two of them really...everybody else playing witness to a marriage where hopefully, it proves to be a long conversation which will always seem too short, where they look in the same direction, where they fall in love with that same person again and again, and where they sit, they talk, they compromise, they trust.

That this day marked the beginning of their lives...and I hate the soppyness of it all, but sometimes I have to admit even, it is true: that when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with someone, you cannot wait for the rest of your life to start. And you can thank Nora Ephron with that when she allowed Harry to meet Sally.

A weekend getaway in Breckenridge, Colorado. Saturday was rainy. Sunday was sunny. Too many tourists. Expensive restaurant but food was great, flowers beautiful, and the "village" is pretty.

Not everyone could finish it, but if you like a bus driver that writes poems it is a great and wonderful movie

After crying for two weeks cause I needed a walking cast on my left leg for our wedding, I finally had a real smile! It was over 100 degrees F and very humid on this day - 8-01-70!

Picked this up at a yard sale. I have no provenance--no where, who, when...Nada!

Mandy tried her hand at the palette with this rendering of a morning glory. I encouraged her and told her that her sense of color and composition exceeded that of many of our contemporaries. What do you think?

A Karrayyuu husband and wife stand for their portrait before the epic Gadaa ceremony. Like many tribes in the region, the Karrayyuu are being threatened by extinction due to famine, drought, war, and sale of ancestral land to foreign corporations.

Me: It looks fancy. In a way.

Mom: In its day, it was very fancy. But my heart was set on getting married at the Garden City Hotel, because of the gardens and everything. The Hotel Granada was very elegant, but it was just closed-in for me.

I uploaded a portrait of this man earlier. After I shot that image, his wife rushed over and wanted a photo of her as well. I obliged.

They look like such an interesting couple! I wish I knew more about them.

Since it was so dark in there and flashes would be worthless even if allowed, and I was hand holding the camera, I had the ISO set 800

By following a docent around I found out the following information: The stone memorials which honor the wealthy people who died have all the people with their feet and heads oriented so when the time comes they are facing east. One couple was oriented the wrong way but that was because they had to be moved when the cathedral got a new organ which needed to be placed where they were. So now, they are across the aisle from where they once were and heading the wrong way. That must have been quite a chore because the whole display must be 12’ tall and possibly the same width.

There was a chalkboard above them around 3’ x 3’ with nothing written on it. One of the docents said the husband planned the whole monument and when asked what he wanted written, he said that they should take care of that. He was too busy. Apparently he may not have been well liked so instead of saying something bad, they said nothing at all. For married couples, the husband was raised a little higher than the wife unless the wife was from a more prominent family. Lots of beautiful stained glass and lots of tombs and effigies. There was a huge baptismal font near the middle, a large square in shape of a dark material with spouts at each corner. The water filled it up and flowed out each corner. Very cool and modern looking.

The present construction was begun in 1986 and continues today with work to repair and conserve the masonry and glazing of the Cathedral. The present Long Term Plan is projecting a completion in 2015 when the exterior elements of the Repair Programme will be totally finished.

Salisbury Cathedral did not evolve gradually over centuries, with constant additions and renovations. Rather, it was built nearly to completion within a single generation.

The Cathedral was begun in 1220, and finished, with the exception of the tower and spire, in 1258. At 404 feet, it is the tallest spire in England, a fact known by most schoolchildren. What is not so well known is that the medieval builders of the spire accomplished their masterpiece with foundations only 5 to 6 feet deep in the wet ground to take the strain of 6400 tonnes.

Because of that wet ground, the cathedral has been subject to structural stress over the centuries. In 1668 Sir Christopher Wren was called on to survey the spire. Wren found that it was leaning nearly 30 inches out of plumb, and had iron tie-rods inserted to brace it. When Wren's braces were replaced some two hundred years later, measurements revealed that no further movement had occurred.

The cathedral library houses an original copy of the Magna Carta, brought here by the William Longpre, Earl of Salisbury and half-brother to King John. Longpre is buried in the cathedral, the first person so honored. In the nave you can see what is probably the oldest working mechanical clock in the world, dating to 1386. There are no hands and no clock face, rather, it rings a chime of bells every hour.

My friend of almost 30 years walking down the aisle with his bride at a lovely church in the village of Austwick. What a great day.

Gen 2

[21] And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

[22] And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

[23] And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

[24] Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

[25] And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

My beautiful parents are reunited. Dad only lasted 7 months without his beloved wife. He was the last of his siblings, as mum was hers.... so somewhere there is a big party going on.

In this project, I have had pictures of a father and son, a group of skaters, and 2 lovely ladies who are co-employees in a mall but not a good-looking couple until this one.

These two were enjoying the parade when I spotted them holding hands in the streets. I approached the guy and asked if I could take their picture as a couple for this project. He readily agreed and posed with his lovely Filipina wife.

I found out that he was a British national and that they were taking a vacation in his wife's hometown. I told him how I would love to see Great Britain one day with its awesome landscapes. He went on to say however how disappointed he was about the London riots and so on and so forth, blah blah blah, etcetera and that he feels more secure in Davao City because of the laid-back environment and the security that the city government led by punching female Mayor Inday Sara provided. (Backstory: Mayor Inday Sara punched the court sheriff after refusing to hold for 2 hours the dismantling of a shanty area where riots also had started in opposition to the demolition just after the recent floods. It was caught on video www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AJu8W8SpKM&feature=related).

And oh, that shirt he is wearing, usually worn by patriots is a map of the Philippines with the 3 stars and a sun taken from the Philippine flag. He was very proud of his wife.

Strolling through Hesketh Park today, I stumbled upon this extremely sweet scene outside the observatory.

Me: The expression on your face!

Mom: Here I learned that you should never smile when they're throwing rice at you—I had a mouth full of raw rice. And since this was at my wedding, I couldn't spit out—I had to swallow it.

Me: So afterwards you drove out to the Hotel Granada...

Mom: ...in limousines. I think the entire bridal party left in limousines.

the Nupe and the AKA Diva.

His wife is shy. From her look and jewelery I guessed, she was newly wed. I asked her if she could give me a pose. She only gave me weird look and wrapped her face tightly. But her man was very eager for a snap. She was not happy for that either.

He had just completed flight training and was going to go flying for the duration of the war. It was not a fly-by-night romance. She finished college in North Carolina, they married and eventually had a son. He was blessed; he made it home and another American dream began. They were young and had a future ahead of them in a new and prosperous America.

But America still had many problems to solve, problems that would eventually surface time and again until the peace that was won would be a peace that would be equal for all and enjoyed by all. When I think about such issues, I become confused and despondent about our founding fathers and their lack of wisdom in signing a document that still permitted slavery to exist in America.

The fact that we had a President that still had slaves is simply more than my mind can comprehend.

Me: Cookie is fixing your train, I see.

Mom: She was a very good matron of honor. She made sure that everything looked right up there.

Me: So what were you at her wedding?

Mom: Her maid of honor.

Me: Not matron?

Mom: "Matron" is if you're already married.

Missed the proposal of my good friend's olde brother Michael and his new fiance, Jessica.

But I was able to get a hearty shot of them before we all went out to get drunk at Santa Con!

We met Red and Wilma, a delightful couple when we were on vacation in the Smoky Mountains. Red once had a red beard, hence his nickname. We exchanged addresses and what a delightful surprise yesterday when a Christmas card arrived from them!
