Solar Water Disinfection" SODIS
ICROSS with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland has carried out extensive research on
solar disinfection of drinking water. Our findings suggest that solar disinfection of water may
significantly reduce morbidity in communities with no other means of disinfecting drinking
water, because of lack of resources or in the event of a disaster.

Celebrating our amazing EOP Class of 2023! We take great pride in recognizing the remarkable journeys of our exceptional students. Did you know that some of our brightest minds began their CSUN adventure as special admits? EOP leaders saw their immense potential beyond high school grades and with mentoring and support these individuals blossomed into successful college graduates!
Let's also take a moment to honor and celebrate those who were part of our EOP Resilient Scholars Program, designed to provide unwavering support to former foster youth throughout their academic pursuit. These resilient individuals have proven time and again that they are true overachievers, surpassing all expectations along their journey.
As we bid farewell to the EOP Class of 2023, we couldn't be prouder of their remarkable accomplishments and unwavering determination.

Grace Simon and her family poses for a picture with students on the final presentation date for EECS 481 in the Bob and Betty Beyster Building atrium on December 11, 2013.
EECS 481 Students in EECS Professor David Chesney's course have been designing systems to make it easier for Grace Simon to communicate, play, or be more independent at school or home.
Simon was diagnosed with cerebal palsy at six months old. While Grace doesn't have the muscle control to speak, extensively sign, or walk, she has a very capable mind that can read and communicate by signaling 'yes' or 'no.'

The Backpack Community Tour (www.backpackers.co.za) starts with a visit to the Bo-Kaap, including the infamous Atlas Trading. Then we head to the District 6 Museum, before having lunch at the Eastern Food Bazaar in Darling Street.
After lunch we go to Heideveld, where the GCU Academy is based at Woodlands Primary School. Here you will have the opportunity to play soccer with the kids, help them with their homework or read to them, whilst seeing what the GCU (www.gcu.org.za) is about and how they are making big changes.

I've taken my share (or more) of photos showing the evils of littering and trashing the environment. At some point, focusing on how bad things are can get depressing, as does wallowing in pessimism. So, it's refreshing to show people, for a change, doing something to remedy the problem -- i.e., helping clean the nest that's been so badly fouled. These are some of the volunteers who cleaned up several miles of the Flint River, east of Huntsville, on June 2nd. Besides the canoers, a few "landlubbers" also picked up trash and litter around two bridges and landings.
