This is the last weekend that Lauren will be downtown Chicago standing with a whiteboard on Michigan Avenue. Her plan is to be there through January 1st. and you can find her from noon until 4 pm.

This was taken the second time that I met Lauren with her whiteboard and I can tell you that she is passionate, warm and a huge inspiration.

Be sure to follow her on her blog to see what's next for thegirlwiththewhiteboard. My guess is that it's going to be something amazing!!

Best wishes to you in 2012 and beyond, Lauren! I know that you are going to continue to make a difference in our world!!

Oh, I just wanted to add that Lauren was featured on our local ABC station!

Solar Water Disinfection" SODIS

ICROSS with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland has carried out extensive research on

solar disinfection of drinking water. Our findings suggest that solar disinfection of water may

significantly reduce morbidity in communities with no other means of disinfecting drinking

water, because of lack of resources or in the event of a disaster.

Celebrating our amazing EOP Class of 2023! We take great pride in recognizing the remarkable journeys of our exceptional students. Did you know that some of our brightest minds began their CSUN adventure as special admits? EOP leaders saw their immense potential beyond high school grades and with mentoring and support these individuals blossomed into successful college graduates!

Let's also take a moment to honor and celebrate those who were part of our EOP Resilient Scholars Program, designed to provide unwavering support to former foster youth throughout their academic pursuit. These resilient individuals have proven time and again that they are true overachievers, surpassing all expectations along their journey.

As we bid farewell to the EOP Class of 2023, we couldn't be prouder of their remarkable accomplishments and unwavering determination.

Eyad Makki (Center), Computer Science BSE Student, explains his group's application to Sean Ahlquist, College of Architecture and Urban Planning Assistant Professor, and Steve Crang, CSE Communications Specialist, on the final presentation date for projects of an EECS 481 course in the Bob and Betty Beyster Building atrium on December 11, 2013.

EECS 481 Students in EECS Professor David Chesney's course have been designing systems to make it easier for Grace Simon to communicate, play, or be more independent at school or home.

Simon was diagnosed with cerebal palsy at six months old. While Grace doesn't have the muscle control to speak, extensively sign, or walk, she has a very capable mind that can read and communicate by signaling 'yes' or 'no.'

Over the course of 4 days, May 15-18, volunteers from Qualcomm, local residents, business owners, and artists will converge in the alleyways to take part in their transformation by painting murals, installing signage, marking pathways, installing lights, weeding and planting, and a variety of other designs as determined by the community. This event will culminate into a series of block parties in each project location, featuring music, food, and guest speakers.

The Backpack Community Tour (www.backpackers.co.za) starts with a visit to the Bo-Kaap, including the infamous Atlas Trading. Then we head to the District 6 Museum, before having lunch at the Eastern Food Bazaar in Darling Street.

After lunch we go to Heideveld, where the GCU Academy is based at Woodlands Primary School. Here you will have the opportunity to play soccer with the kids, help them with their homework or read to them, whilst seeing what the GCU (www.gcu.org.za) is about and how they are making big changes.
