This youngster was using his foot to kick and loosen the grass roots, making it easier for his trunk to pick up the short pieces of grass..

Lots of tourists will make this travel pilgrimage over the next couple of weeks as the world's biggest event, the Olympics Games 2016, heads to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Some organdie daisies I was making over the weekend.

Lin Han is actually a “noodle master”, but he also makes dumplings. He’s worked here for 15 years making noodles. I’ve had the noodle soup and it’s so yummy.

Holiday yum yums.

This (and more) was featured in a blog post! I'd love it if you took a look at the whole set.

We are getting a dumping of snow today. This was taken when the snow first started. If I took Maggie out there now she'd be up to her belly in snow, with more snow still to come.

Captured this image just as the roseate spoonbill was making the turn to return to the rookery. The colors of the Spoonbills were incredibly vibrant and one might question whether the saturation was too much but believe me they were so beautiful and really I had never seen theirs colors so rich. It was breathtaking !!

It's someone's birthday. And on your birthday, you get to be as silly as you want. And so does everyone else.

UPDATE: Delighted to announce that this build won its category in Colossal Castle Contest XVI!

I decided to incorporate many stages of wine making into a single MOC, going through the seasons. I learned a lot from researching how this was done in Medieval times!

-Tilling the ground

-Planting seeds (try to spot them!)

-Collecting chicken manure as fertiliser (including one chicken in the process of making some of the fresh stuff!)

-Watering the seedlings using watering pots - they have a thumb release on the top which releases the water. Ingenious!

-Hoeing and weeding using domesticated pig varieties that eat vegetation without excessively digging up the ground, like other breeds. (Important not to use their dung as manure! - it’s full of worms that are harmful to humans.)

-Ripening (the four rows represent progressive stages of the vines maturing)

-Picking/harvesting in autumn (hence the autumnal tree in this area of the MOC)

-Stomping and pressing. (How widespread the use of feet for pressing grapes has ever been is disputed as grape presses of Roman age have been found. It has been used sometimes, and it makes good sense as a method because one doesn’t want to release the bitter tannins by crushing the seeds, but it is inefficient and so hard to imagine it was widely used. As such I also included a design for a mechanical press.)

-Bottling/Labelling

-Storing/fermenting (in the basement)

-Selling (off to market! This is the oldest part of the build - it's inspired by a Lego ideas book, and was my first castle themed build after my dark ages I think. In one of the photos you can see it has a set of hinged steps for loading.)

Set is centre top, it's a Xmas set from last year, good source of tiles. I was kindly given 2 copies by the good ppl of snob LUG (not it's real name but i can't remember the real one whoops! Btw the "snob LUG" name is used by other members so i don't think i'm insulting anyone?? I hope not.) on the proviso that i make an alt build containing the pieces and post it online. Cue the building hilarity above.

These have got to be some of the first things i've built outside of work all year lol.. nice to not have to worry about making things stable or indeed identifiable! ;)

So in the interests of giving you some handy hints as to what these, erm, "creations" might represent, i will start from the top right and go clockwise:

1. Space base under meteor bombardment

2. Somewhat abstracted representation of a bridge over a frozen river? I think. (Made at the same time as the candle so not many parts left)

3. Arctic hare striking a heroic pose against the Aurora borealis.

4. Candle blowin' in the wind.

5. Actual set!

some friends - Victor and Jenny - just got married in Bali. Amazingly beautiful wedding.

While on assignment for WWF-Romania, we visited some villages in the north of Romania, in Maramures. This man was making palinca (fruit brandy). While he was explaining the process, he decided all that talk deserved a cigarette. www.doruoprisan.com via 500px ift.tt/1ra7gGf

One penguin and one human greet each other on the edge of a large colony of gentoos at Volunteer Point. The gentoos were curious about the tall creatures visiting them, and were not afraid to approach and say hello. They are not given any food by people, but simply seem to like the interaction.

The penguin she's greeting is a bit hard to see as he has his back turned to us.
