There are are two large brown coloured cave spiders found in the U.K.; Meta menardi and Meta bourneti. The two can only be distinguished by examining them with a strong magnifier.

They are amongst the largest spiders found in the U.K. Both species live in total darkness, so although they are not rare, they often go unnoticed.

The female cave spiders produce teardrop-shaped eggsacs, which hang suspended on a silk thread from the roof of their dwelling.

When the spiderlings first emerge they are attracted to light, unlike the adults which are strongly repelled by light. This helps the spiderlings find new areas to colonise.

The lights only came on briefly for visitors to safely walk through the grotto, it was hidden in a dark corner too.

Have a lovely weekend everyone

Snapped for a low key challenge with a Zenitar M 50/1.7 and Raynox M-250 magnifier.

A couple of good books and a glass of fine 16 years old Lagavulin. What’s left to wish for?

The Cheviot Hills. Northumberland National Park. (The small tree on the right has come free of the ground, probably due to the wind. Use the Flickr magnifier.)

Of note: the area in the photograph, just below the aforementioned subject of this endeavour (you gotta view with the magnifier to see it) looks all post-processed with magic tricks courtesy of Photoshop but, it ain't. Albeit, it is enhanced with that 'devil of pure photography', I will grant that but, the rotors must stir up all the air molecules or something cause sooc, it comes with all that distortion.

Bakersfield, California 2012

Created for Sandy's Contest 63 ~ Text Art over at Kreative People.

A collage of images from my long-serving guitar accessories suitcase: stickers, in part include The Fonz (thumbs-up, "Aaay!"), Jimi Hendrix, Ted Nugent (Oh! Who can forget the dulcet tones of the classic Cat Scratch Fever!), CN Tower when it actually was the Tallest Freestanding structure, Dean Markley guitar strings, Pink Floyd Pyramids (original LP insert for Dark Side of the Moon) and a bunch of other stuff. Viewing with the magnifier is pretty good.

A trusty old hand lens for field work and inspection of small objects.

Focus stack (55 images). Shot with a single off-camera flash, modified with MagMod MagBounce diffuser, camera left (about 60 degrees) and low to minimize reflections from lens and metal frame. White reflector placed to left of camera to fill-in shadows.

That shinny kitchen knife does not look so good closeup.

I used a lens reverse adaptor plus a 10x magnifier to get a real close look to see the imperfection!

Now my Wife wants a new knife.

Hey, everyone!

Today's post is inspired by Stephen King's character Rose O'Hara, aka "Rose the Hat" leader of the True Knot gang. Although I'm team Danny Torrance all the way in Doctor Sleep, I was overwhelmed by Rebecca Ferguson's beauty playing Rose. Her boho demonic style is just amazing, right?!

Hope you like it! Xo! <3

For the third round broski's!

The lightweight weapon consists out of a combination between a shotgun that uses state-of-the-art Sweetwater reusable slugs, that can be filled with whatever can be found, such as rocks, screws, empty bullet casings, and so on.

The other part is a crossbow that fires regular bolts, that can be picked up again.

The weapon is for usage when ammo is finite, granting it a supply of reusable ammo.

The scope consists out of a regular (Electromagnatic-filed detecting) magnifier and a built-in computer that calculates the arrow's drop-off, and adjusts it to the planet's gravity.

Standard issue to every squad.

Credit to Bowlingdude for the text and KevinTK for the original scope design, as well as the SPW team for the useful notes!

No credit to Shockwave for whatsoever.

April 1, after rain, in the spring wind

We had this fella visit us last night on our power pole. I think it's a youngster as we've had parent birds visit as well. I hope they catch all the mice in our garden below.

I shot this with my 200-500mm with the 1.4 magnifier and this is cropped by 2/3 the original size. I'm still getting practice for when I shot the total solar eclipse. My camera position was in our dining room shooting out the door some 75 feet away.

Imagine an object watching you while trying to fix it.

Snapped with a Helios 44M-6 and Raynox M-250 magnifier.

TTL exposure off gray card 1/4s @fll. Image was then desaturated and post processed with Adobe Elements.

Lightbox view is highly recommended (press L or use the magnifier).

Water droplets. I tried to spend a day with my daughter at a beautiful garden. We had hoped for brilliant autumn leaves and reasonable weather All we got was a light misty rain. The end result was lots of photos of raindrops and mist.

Snapped with a Helios 44M-6 and Raynox M-250 magnifier.

Pretty cool with the magnifier.

*So recently, my good Flickr-friend (I have actually met him in person, btw), Richard Gardner-Warner (aka Visionheart) and I have chosen to trade a few song suggestions back and forth for our artistic offerings we post up here on the ol' Flickr. We just seem to gel when it comes to musical preferences, so it is a no-brainer in my books. Anyway, this delicate little fancy is being presented to you as a soundscape that might pleasure your 'earballs' whilst viewing this here piece of digital art. Very fine moosic and heartily endorsed by this here 'blartist' indeed!

*Add now, I might just add the actual link (23 days later... duh!): 'First Wave' - Mirror System.

I wasn't sure whet I was going to use for this challenge and then I thought about these which I used recently.

Belonged to my Father although I don't know what he used them for. They are worn on the head and the magnifier is hinged to lift up out of the way when not using. Provides hands free magnification and so it is very useful. This is in its original box, the bottom of which is velvet lined for protection. I used them recently when looking for that dreaded broken needle inside my machine. Ideal for close intricate work potentially jewellery work
