little magnets I made with pages from an old thesaurus and some new paper
blogged at www.myluckychicken.typepad.com
Constructed from two icosahedra (Each side is nine magnets), with two hexagons joining them. Uses a total of 432 magnets (Precisely two Zen sets).
The long, slender pedicels, which allow the flowers to sway in the slightest breeze, give this cultivar its name. An oldie but a goodie.
I've been noodling around some spherical magnets recently, a little desktop gift I got for Christmas, and while a lot of the fun is in just putting the stuff together there's something a little bit sad about how any given construction only lasts until I need the spare magnets to build the next one.
The idea of photographing the shapes seems kind of obvious but I'm not really sure how to get pictures that really capture well the shape of a construction, especially when it's something like this where there aren't really acute angles of inflection along the surface.
Like, this is fundamentally a dodecahedron, but each face is made not by a flat polygon (because these magnets can't hold that shape stably) but rather by a small five-sided pyramidal shape, three magnets deep: a single magnet at the apex, followed by a pentagonal ring of five magnets underneath, and a larger ring made of ten magnets beneath that.
In this photo, the closest magnet to the camera is the apex of one of those pyramids, but at a glance can you even tell that's what's going on?
Magnet charger I made for charging magneto magnets. Wound the coils on my lathe, five raps of number 12 wire on one inch round bar.
Promotional magnet set for the Sunset Tree. Interesting I just noticed a typo that I hadn't seen before. "You or Your MONEY." haha
This magnet shows an image of Susan Boyle on the obverse. Susan, from Blackburn, was a runner up in the TV talent show "Britain's Got Talent", 2009. This and a number of other objects were handmade by an American fan.
Susan Boyle’s audition on the television talent show ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, shown in April 2009, became a worldwide internet phenomenon with millions of hits on ‘YouTube’. Susan went on to become runner up on the talent show and released a number of successful albums. A musical has also been written based on her life story. Despite her fame, she continues to live in her family home in Blackburn, West Lothian.

We do this activity where we make play-doh things and let them harden then glue a magnet to them. I made these for Alesha and Nat.
Christina hosted a fun craft for the kids where they could create a neat picture magnet behind a flat glass marble.
Made these mini cards with a special spot to stick one of my SewTara magnets. Thought they'd make a nice little giveaway item along with my card.
