I have to make a lot of presets for Purim holiday. the presents should contain some chocolate, wine, snakes, cookies and sort kind of a present, so i decided to prepare magnets all made from polymer clay to add to my package. I hope they will like them.
1674 magnets. 93 6x3-magnet cylinders. 4 cylinders make an extended tetrahedron, which are then packed in a face-centered cubic configuration. Animated version on the All Sizes page.
Based off of, and a tribute to the original design made by Damian O'Connor (damocs on flickr).
This was made more or less the same way as Damian did except MUCH larger.
This took a very long time and several attempts to make.
The flaring out at the top looks cool, so that's why I didn't make a pattern on the top like I did on the base. The tube flares out if there isn't any layers on top of it, or something holding it from doing so.
There are only a couple of differences between the tube Damian made and my tube not including the size:
-the base has rings of five built into the base in order to strengthen it, along with two full rings
-the top has extra magnets in order to give the top a more flat edge
-when adding squares (rings of four) to increase the length of the tube, I made sure to alternate the direction I put them in in order to decrease the weak connections throughout the shape. (I didn't want long strands running diagonally along the length of the tube because those connections are weak.)
Other than that, this massive tube was made bit by bit, the same way.
Enjoy!
The magnet lifts the metal and drops it down the chute to the bay below. Bricks, stones, tar, paving slabs etc are left on the conveyor and fall of the conveyor into a bay outside.

Decorative magnet for which I used paper folded into special origami model - star Mathilda. The magnet can hold two sheets (A4) of copy paper.
Original origami model which I used here is called "star Mathilda". It was designed by me some years ago. It uses repeating pattern, so you can continue and make another smaller star on top. It is quite difficult to fold especially from small paper.
I folded them from 7,5 cm squares of special patterned japanese paper.
You know those little reading stands that typists use to hold their papers up? This is a magnet from one of those, designed to hold the paper to the stand. It's made of the same wire screen-like material as the stand. Very chic.

Magnet part 3-end
A ansiedade chega com o amanhecer para me encontrar ainda chorando
Quando você sussurrou "Está tudo bem", eu ouvi lágrimas na sua voz também?
Eu quero te abraçar, eu quero que você me diga
Que você não acha que isso seja um erro
Eu quero que você me beije, eu quero que você me refaça
Eu quero me afogar nesse momento de cativação
Eu estou preso a você como um imã
Mesmo que eu me vá, nós devemos encontrar um ao outro novamente
Eu te toquei, eu posso nunca voltar e estará tudo bem
Você é tudo no mundo para mim!!

I got some of those supermagnets for holidaytime. My friends came to visit this weekend and I just noticed they left me a little magnet sculpture on the fridge. This is looking straight up, towards the ceiling, up the face of the fridge.

I got this made at Postmodern Sideshow. I'm glad there's others who think ribbon magnets are as trite as I do.
