I've finally made it to Grey Refuge, my last stop in this park! I'll be here for two nights. There are tons of adventures to be had around here. Today, my fourth day, I hiked a total of 13.5 miles (21.82 km) on two different trails. I still have two more days of hiking ahead. So, what am I going to do now that I'm here? The highest temperature today was 42.8 degrees Fahrenheit (6 degrees Celsius) and the lowest was 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 degrees Celsius). First, a hot shower! Then, I'm going to unpack everything and hang up all my clothes. With my 50-liter (13.20-gallon) backpack now empty, I can head to the bar for a few pisco sours and catch up with the other hikers. After dinner, I'll warm up by the fireplace with a glass of cognac. And then, it's off to bed. The glacier and Grey Lake are only 2,362 feet (720 meters) away. I can hear the ice walls crashing into the lake. It's part of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, the second largest extra-polar ice cap in the world. It's 17.4 miles (28 km) long and covers an area of over 105 square miles (270 square kilometers). It starts on the western side of the Patagonian Andes and ends at the shores of Grey Lake. On average, it's 98 feet (30 meters) high and about 3.7 miles (6 kilometers) wide.

Hiking summary:

Day 1: 18.6 miles (30 km).

Day 2: 10.6 miles (17 km).

Day 3: 14.3 miles (23 km).

Day 4: 13.7 miles (22 km).

Total for the first four days: 57.2 miles (92 km).

Making donuts at home can be a delightful experience! Here's a basic recipe for classic fried donuts:

Essential Ingredients:

2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast

1/4 cup warm water (110°F / 45°C)

3/4 cup lukewarm milk

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 large egg

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for rolling)

Oil for frying (vegetable, canola, or peanut oil)

For Glaze:

2 cups powdered sugar

1/4 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:

Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water. Let it sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.

Make the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture, lukewarm milk, sugar, salt, butter, and egg. Gradually add the flour and mix until a dough forms.

Knead: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.

Cut out donuts: Roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch thick. Use a donut cutter or two different-sized round cutters to cut out donuts and holes. Place them on a floured surface and let them rise again until doubled, about 30 minutes.

Fry: Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C). Fry donuts in batches, turning them once, until golden brown (1-2 minutes per side). Drain on paper towels.

Glaze: Mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Dip the warm donuts into the glaze and let them cool on a wire rack.

Hatchet Hue - New Forest by Chris Pope

I made an long overdue visit tonight to hatchet pond in the new forest. Located near Beaulieu, the pond makes a good sunset location this time of year.

Before I left Basingstoke the forecast looked promising, low wind speed with Sunny intervals. I arrived 30 mins before sunset disappointed to find very little cloud cover and quite a breeze.

Shortly after sunset the wind died and some cloud cover drifted in. 30 mins later I was lucky to be able to capture some great reflections and a purple hue to the sky. At least it was worth the effort in the end.

No grad or ND with a 6 second exposure
