The Southern Emerald Damselfly (Lestes barbarus) is a slender damselfly, 40–45 mm long, with transparent wings. Its body shines metallic green or copper, with broad, light stripes. A distinctive feature is its bicolored wing spot, brown on the inside and whitish on the outside. It lives near small, sunny water bodies with dense vegetation and is active from June to September. The eggs overwinter, and the larvae develop into damselflies within 2–3 months.
This image is so "busy," that it almost makes me uncomfortable. But it has a detailed and complex beauty.

On that morning in the forest I spotted this beauty. It's name is Psyche. They nectar for a very short duration on each flower, thus hardly giving any time to capture them extremely close. The Psyche (Leptosia nina) is also known by the delightful name Wandering Snowflake – a term which describes this common and pretty species very well. In Africa, other members of the genus are known by the equally descriptive names Flip-Flop and Wood White.
