I was going for "toe beans" which is what I remembered the Happy Caturday theme as being. I was wrong - it's "paws" which is great since the toe beans are out of focus. Actually, the only thing in focus is Mack's face but at least I didn't have to resort to an old photo of Jimmy.
Happy Caturday: Paws
This photo was taken four years ago with a CAMERA instead of a phone. Mack was looking good - even SOOC.
This photo was taken a couple days ago when I let both Jimmy and Mack out for just long enough to take a few photos. He's healing nicely and will get his sutures out tomorrow. In the end, it turns out all that all this drama was probably caused by a bug bite but then his inflammatory response went into overdrive and he developed the EGC lesions. He's been on steroids to fight the allergic response and has gained 1.5 pounds in about 2 weeks. Fingers crossed we don't have a budding diabetic on our hands!
This is one of the earliest photos of Mack that I posted on Flickr 13 years ago when I first joined. He and Jimmy were 4 years old and Ella was 6. They were all so young and healthy - in the prime of their lives. You can see that Mack was just starting to get the freckles that orange cats get as they age. That was a very happy time. The pets were young and healthy and I was starting a new hobby - photography. My cats were my perfect subjects and through them, I met friends from all around the world on Flickr.
Happy Caturday: Now and Then
Working with my black fiber optics with the help of Mack armstrong as model. more like this coming soon let me know what you think.
Lots has changed in our cat world this year. I had to say goodbye to Ella and we gained Pippi. The one happy constant has been Mack, AKA Big Mack Attack (from an old McDonald's commercial).
Mack, at 16, is still very much himself. He still has strong (loud) opinions about wanting to go outside or to come back inside and he still lies on top of me in bed so close that his nose nearly touches mine. He loves sitting on George's lap at night after I've gone to bed and has handled all the changes in his life with calm acceptance. I love this sweet, vocal, ginger kitty and am grateful that he's doing well.
Happy Caturday: Memories of 2024
Mack Trucks was founded in 1900 by Jack and Gus Mack in Brooklyn, NY, and was originally known as the Mack Brothers Company. The Mack brothers actually entered the vehicle manufacturing business seven years earlier, when they purchased the Fallesen and Berry carriage company. The company produced its first successful motorized vehicle in 1900. In 1905, the company moved its headquarters to Allentown, PA. In 2010, Mack headquarters relocated to Greensboro, NC. The company adopted its present name, Mack Trucks, Inc., in 1922.
The company's trademark is the Bulldog. Mack trucks earned this nickname in 1917, during World War I, when the British government purchased the Mack AC model to supply its front lines with troops, food and equipment. British soldiers dubbed the truck the Bulldog Mack. Its pugnacious, blunt-nosed hood, coupled with its incredible durability, reminded the soldiers of the tenacious qualities of their country's mascot, the British Bulldog.
When I first got Mack as a kitten, I was relieved that he didn't have freckles as most ginger cats do. And then, about 10 years ago, he started developing a few freckles and I decided that since they were on Mack, I liked them after all (see post in the comments).
So for this week's Happy Caturday theme of "favorite part" I wanted a photo of Mack's freckles. I realize this isn't the best shot of them but the way his paws were framing his freckles was too cute.
Just a happy update, Mack hasn't had to wear his e-collar for the past week. No new lesions and since I think the unknown allergen is outside, I'm sort of relieved that the weather has turned so cold. Mack doesn't want to spend too much time outside.

Mack brewery had a very nice range of beers, and I think I tasted them all onboard MS Nordnorge.. but I have no idea which of them is in the glass this time!

Mack celebrates his 15th birthday today. He's spending the day outside. I think our neighbors almost consider him "homeless" because he's always outside but that is by choice. I used to wonder if Mack would have preferred being re-released after the animal control officer brought him, Jimmy and their mom into our practice. But then I remember just how much Mack loves a certain puffy comforter my mom gave us, his heated mat in winter, being inside when it rains, having doormen/doorwomen opening doors for him, serving him food on demand, freshening his water multiple times a day... He loves being outside when the weather is nice but he also likes the finer things in life.
Happy Caturday: Happy
I decided to go all out for Happy Caturday this week by taking a photo with my CAMERA instead of my phone. Because it was overcast, I used my fanciest lens which is 100mm f/2.8. My backyard is so tiny that even leaning against the side fence, I couldn't get all of Mack in the frame as well as the flowers behind him. Oh well, best laid plans...

Explored May 6, 2023
For Happy Caturday we get to post two photos that we took during 2019 that hadn't yet been posted for whatever reason. I went looking through old photos and liked this one of Mack showing off his whiskers. I have become so spoiled taking pictures with just my phone of cats at work that it was nice to go back through the photos I took outside of my own cats with an actual camera! lol

Something a little different from the archives......
I did my weekly walk through the Ravines Park expecting a good morning with the sunrise and Eagles. The two weather apps that I use both said partly cloudy skies at sunrise. What we got was heavy grey clouds with no sun in sight. We did see the eagles both perched on a branch in plain view but without a little light I never took a shot. So I will have to pull a few out of the archives.
I believe I took this at Weller auto parts a auto salvage yard.
