The morning silence was rended as the unruly beast roared to life with a repetition of, "Bam, Bam, Bam!"
All that heard the pounding sounds of the machine new the days work had begun. Industry had arrived an nature's dominance over man would soon be put to the task.

Eureka Machines are a British pop rock band based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, who formed in 2007. The band consists of Chris Catalyst (also of The Sisters of Mercy and The God Damn Whores) on lead vocals & guitar, Davros (aka Dave) on guitar & backing vocals, Pete Human on bass guitar & backing vocals and Wayne Insane on drums. Described as "power pop" by The Sun and Classic Rock magazine, they are something of a cottage industry, putting out their own records and being self-managing and self-promoting while also touring and gaining press coverage and airplay at a national level.

To celebrate "Power Up at Your Library Day" (September 15th, 2016), patrons were invited to use the equipment, supplies and tools in the Innovation Lab to build a giant Rube Goldberg machine. The device was triggered using a Raspberry Pi monitoring Twitter, but most everything else was envisioned, designed and built by patrons on the fly. A video of the contraption in action is available on HCPL's YouTube channel.

I got to try out my mom's setup... she has a set of Grace quilting frames complete with this sweet Juki machine and stitch regulator. Totally different than quilting on a home machine on the table.
With that complete, I turned to the Ball screws themselves. The X axis ball screw only needed to be assembled so I started there. A ball screw is basically a screw that uses a nut that circulates ball bearings rather than a fixed thread to create a very low friction, high accuracy fit. The catch is that threading the nut onto the screw is kind of tricky to do without scattering the ball bearings everywhere. So I usually do it over top of a tightly taped up box to catch any bearings should things go wrong.
Over the past several months, construction to make way for a new second MRI machine and radiology space has been underway. Last week, BID-Needham officially opened the rooms and activated the new MRI machine, a Siemens Aera 1.5T system.
This state-of-the-art, wide-bore scanner allows for faster scan times and excellent imaging capability. The system has a larger opening and a shorter system design for a more pleasant and comfortable patient experience. For claustrophobic patients, this MRI system provides them with more room so they feel less “closed-in.” In some cases, patients can keep their head outside of the system to look at a lighted ceiling mural, which studies have shown helps to relax patients.
Adding this second MRI system will give our team greater flexibility and availability for patient scheduling. The Department of Radiology at BID–Needham is part of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Department of Radiology and staffed by Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians. Subspecialty interpretations are provided using the same protocols as BIDMC in breast imaging, neuroradiology, musculoskeletal imaging, and body imaging.
