This is the ice machine at the Tsukiji wholesale fish market in Tokyo. The machine looks to be rather old. When someone needs nice they put their bucket down a few feet away from the machine, it rumbles to life and out pours a mountain of ice.
Believe it or not, even though I've been either living or visiting Japan regularly for the past 15 years, this morning was my first visit to visit Tsukiji. It was a little late (for Tsukuji that means around 9am) as most of the auctions are over by around sunrise, but it was still amazingly busy. Carts and people everywhere - mixed with tourists and photographers like myself.
