These machines were powered 100% from the belt running through them that also carried the grain. The grain would go up the belt and get sucked into the chutes, then dropped off one of the edges into the silo below

Artist: Sam Peniak
Location: Northwest corner of South 3rd Street and Franklin Street.
One of my favorite painted hydrants. A fun colorful design, and the hydrants do kind of look like gumball machines.
This fire hydrant is one of 41 painted in 2013 for Geneva's Art on Fire community art project.

Would love to know the history of this little machine that I bought at Aunt Marie's auction. Betty tells me that she remembers this sewing machine always being stored in the closet under the stairs at home & could never remember it ever being taken out to be used. When I bought it, it was already rusty, so it looks right at home setting in the Helen's Country Quilting flowerbed!

I bought this machine at Goodwill today for $3.50!! It was in a case also. It is pretty dirt and is missing the bobbin case, but it powered up and the light works. It will need a god bath and a new belt and then I'll test it out! I love the color!
FLYING-MACHINE
Patented Apr. 25, 1916.
Application filed May 5, 1915. Serial No. 26,116.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES D. LANSING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ashtabula, in the county of Ashtabula and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Flying-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to flying machines, and one of its objects is to provide a machine which is adapted for directly ascending and descending without gliding action, which may be caused to hover or remain stationary in the air over any given point on the earth or water below, and which may he landed at any given speed.
A further object of the invention is to provide a flying machine of the helicopter type wherein the lifting and sustaining propellers are arranged to operate in such manner as to render the machine inherently self balancing.
A further object of the invention is to provide a machine in which a driving propeller of the tractor type is employed,-which may be adjusted to steer the machine laterally in either direction, and also admits of stopping and backing the machine while suspended in the air.
Mystery bores me. It chores me. I know what happens and so do you. It's the machine nations that wheel us there that aggravate, perplex, interest, and astound me. There are many things to think of. There is much story."
