Just beginning HDR and not having too many projects to works on, I decided to re-process this view of MacArthur Mill. This time, shifted from reality to surreality. I am more a fan of realistic processing, but it can't hurt to experiment. The original is re-posted below.

Some of the first photos I took with my 7D when I first purchased it were of this former MacArthur Woolen Mill. They were HDRs, but the other day, I saw shot from a different vantage point. A channel leads from the Mississippi River in Carleton Place to the water wheel beside the building (the water wheel is seen better in some of the photos below).
To some degree, if you compare the new photos with the old, I have learned what a difference light makes. Not that we always have a choice.

Ian is a work colleague on a construction site in Sardinia, here is my take on some lost evenings with him
I stopped to shoot this favorite causeway bridge, lit up purple, the MacArthur Causeway, on my way home from the Marlins/Phillies game last Friday night. It's been a while since I've been on Watson Island and there is still a ton of construction going on at night~
I've been a little absent on Flickr of late, due to my INSTAGRAM obsession . . . join me there if you are on Instagram :-)

I took this shot during the summer of 2017 in MacArthur Park (yes, it really does melt in the dark) -- This is a re-edit, using Light Room Classic
Douglas MacArthur, Class of 1903, compiled a distinguished record in American military history. His more notable contributions include command of the 42nd "Rainbow" Division in World War I; superintendency of the U.S. Military Academy; service as supreme commander of the southwest Pacific areas in World War II; his role as military governor of Japan after World War II; and his service as supreme commander of U.N. forces in Korea. In 1962, 40 years after he served as Superintendent, he returned to West Point to receive the Thayer Award. At that time, he delivered his famous "Duty, Honor, Country" speech, which was his lasting tribute to the ideals of this institution.
The statue was sculpted by Walter Hancock and dedicated in 1969 by General MacArthur's wife, Jean.

The Park Plaza Hotel, overlooking MacArthur Park near downtown Los Angeles, was recently restored. Originally built in 1925, the Park Plaza served as a prominent meeting place for Elks club members and guests. Bing Crosby, Jack Dempsey, and Eleanor Roosevelt were a few of the Lodge's "regulars." Also The Park Plaza was the location for the following films: Barton Fink, The Mask, Chaplin, Nixon, Fisher King, Wild at Heart, Bugsy, and The Bodyguard.

Sadly I think everybody’s 20 year lease running out in 2019, and covid is hurting this poor mall bad. It was so beautiful 20 years ago.

An empty Rush Island (RTR) coal train detours over the MacArthur Bridge in St Louis, MO. These trains usually take the TRRA High Line from the River Sub up to the Hannibal Sub (K-Line), but work along that route necessitated a detour. The train re-crossed the Mississippi on the Merchants Bridge in North St Louis, and made its way back to BNSF trackage.
