I was pleased with how this mosaic turned out with using the stained glass on end and a variety of tesserae along with the aquarium gravel for some interesting texture. Had a hard time getting a good photo so will have to try taking some more.

I'm a graphic designer. As a life long admirer of mosaics and always wanting to try my hand at them, I finally took the plunge towards the end of 2006. I love working with stained glass and embellishing with jewelry, rocks or other found objects! I'm self-taught but have joined a professional mosaic studio (Maverick Mosaics) in the past year for specialized workshops and supervised studio time.

Love the coffee/tea pot and cups I bought a long time ago from someone on e-Bay.
Focals, stained glass, plate tiles, crystal tiles bordering and added some glass pebbles.
A custom welcome sign - they have 8 dogs so I built in a little something to represent each dog without having to name them. (so there are 3 bones - 3 dogs - and 2 paws)
Her requirements were - earthtones & dog theme with the spotted dog farm name.
I enjoyed doing this piece so much - the colors were right up my alley

Before you get too impressed, let me explain. I found this fish sun catcher at a garage sale. I thought he'd look cute in the middle of a stepping stone.
I painted the paver, then put on glitter paint, and glued tg to it with liquid nails. The shells are just some I found on the beach. It looks pretty in the sun with the glitter shining through the glass.

Hand-cut china, marble chips, Snow Quartz, Desert Roses, buffalo teeth, alligator scoots, Yoka Star Turban; 36" x 24"
"White Noon" evolved from a Yoka Star Turban, a fabulous star-shaped, marine shell found most readily off of the Phillipines. I came across an online vendor who carried the shell, and so I purchased one. After that, I began "building" White Noon in my head, always on the lookout for materials that would work with the shell. A visit in March 2007 to Sedona, AZ lead to the discovery of materials indigenous of the west and, most specifically, Native American culture. Among those materials were the buffalo teeth and alligator scoots that are found in this piece. "White Noon" is representative of a particularly beautiful, snowy winter day in Albemarle County, Virginia in 2007.
