Looking southeastward across the valley of Arizona's Verde River, just upstream of the river's confluence with Sycamore Creek, I was able to capture one of the many valley-bottom cottonwood trees colonized by mistletoe. I took this photo on January 25, 2023 from an open-air observation car of the Verde Canyon RR as it returned to its station in Clarkdale, Arizona.

My tree ornaments include this spangly little mistletoe. Together, the two joined leaves are 0.75 inches across; frame is a bit under 1.75 inches across.

Amyema miquelii, also known as box mistletoe,is one of 97 mistletoes found in Australia. They provide an important source of food for wildlife and the seeds are spread by the bright red breasted Mistletoe bird.
Mistletoe is our rescue Jack Russell. She was found with a badly broken back leg and missing a toe. Hence the name.
