This is the first of a series I'm starting to honor the black lives matter movement. My goal is to show that racism is taught, not inherited. As you can see by this picture, children are not born with prejudice. Children are born seeing everyone as equal, until taught by outside influences to think otherwise.
All photos taken with consent at different protests around Los Angeles, CA.

The Black Lives Matter Movement in Toronto, Canada took over the exterior property of the Toronto Police Headquarters through severe weather, police assaults and personal sacrifices of time and comfort to make a bold statement for justice. The results have been amazing, but the struggle continues. These are a few images that capture the great energy and people that were a part of this movement.

"The new set of pieces...are more natural and less forced. I’m allowing it to happen instead of trying to manifest something that’s been marinating in my head to a point of fermentation. Things are evolving. I guess keeping focused on matters at hand and filling each moment before it passes, keeps things fresh and growing."

UMass Boston hosted the 6th Annual Media Matters Writing Conference for middle and high school students, sponsored by the university and the Boston Globe, on Nov. 4-5.
We were delighted to team up with R&A Collaborations for a day of discussion, making and playing with stuff! It was hosted at the Institute of Making workshop surrounded by wondrous materials on Monday 1st December.
The morning involved foray into the world of materials with our creative director Zoe Laughlin, followed by a thought-provoking talk by PhD student in Anthropology Elizabeth Corbin about her research into makespaces. This was followed by a series of object-led introductions from all 38 makers, showing the wide array of materials and processes being experimented with in contemporary craft.
After a super-tasty lunch it was time to play with materials, explore the library and get creative. Makers got a chance to experiment with materials outside their normal palette, with wonderful results.
It was an inspiring day and generated lots of new ideas. Thank you to Richard and Arron for helping to arrange the day and to all the makers who attended.

It Matters What Happens Next is a programme of newly commissioned artworks and events that consider the origins of care and the transition between states of ‘caring’ to being ‘cared for’.
The project brings together individuals, institutions, and the public, intertwining our collective notions of care and looking toward how we maintain ongoing acts of reciprocal care into the future. To ask how do we understand welfare, labour, and communities through the lens of care? And what does it mean to give as well as receive care?
It Matters What Happens Next is curated by students from the MA Curating Contemporary Art Programme, Royal College of Art in partnership with Camden Art Centre, and the Spring Grove Care Home.
