Busy day at work + atrocious weather hampered all adventure attempts. Joe sulked and decided to spend the day as a fridge magnet.
I circled around until I finally found this angle, which was the view the National Park Service desk person had shown us on that magnet at the visitors center. And this was, in fact, a pretty view. It's probably the best view in the park, which is why it winds up on a lot of promotional pictures. Is it as good as the iconic views from other national parks, like this view at Arches, or this view at Yosemite, or this view at Grand Teton? Who's to say? It all depends on what you value, and whether you prefer a more intimate setting. I know it's a better iconic view than this view from Cuyahoga Valley, so at least there's that. I thought it was very pretty, and it made for a peaceful day.

The young lady was magnet fishing in the canal at Curzon Street when she was joined by the lad with the bike.
The scene is due to change dramatically. This is where HS2 will cross the canal, two bridges will span it as the tracks leave the station, one set for London and one set to go north. The sheer width is obvious by the constuction site behind.

Picked up this fun retro DC Comics magnet page set for the kids ... but I seem to be enjoying more than them! Ha ha.
Finished product, ready for the office.
It also looks cool laying on one side.
It's fun to stand it upside-down, so the magnet hangs down, when people come in and ask what it is, say: "flip it over".
Macro lens pointed through a reversed wide angle lens at some tendrils of iron grains adhering to a magnet.
8" x 8" trivet and 2" x 2" magnets
Finished the final mosaic trivet (five in all) before Christmas so all is well. :)
I like the turquoise and silver combination so much that I decided to make a couple of refrig. magnets, too.
(Kept those for now. :)
Each magnet is an original pencil illustration and painted with acrylic paint. Non-toxic coating gives a nice shiny raised surface. A large strong magnet is fixed onto the back with industrial glue.

Just a quick test shot taken in my kitchen with my new Nikon D800! It's going to take a long time to get used to how this camera operates, and what it can achieve!
This is shot using ISO 6400! I can hardly believe how clear it is, with only a tiny amount of noise - and that's more down to my processing than it was with the original image!
I can't believe how shallow the depth of field is either, using the FX lenses on a full frame sensor! This is shot at f/7.1, at 300mm, and the focal point is the tip of the nose - and focus has fallen off by the eyes already! Also, where did the writing go in the background? That's insane!
I think I'm going to need a lot of time to work out how to get the best from this camera - and I can't wait to start trying! :)

Monster Magnet is an American rock band. Hailing from Red Bank, New Jersey, the group was founded by Dave Wyndorf (vocals and guitar), John McBain (guitar) and Tim Cronin (vocals and drums).
Monster Magnet's style is heavily influenced by 1970s space rock such as Hawkwind, and proto-metal bands such as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Blue Oyster Cult, Captain Beyond and Sir Lord Baltimore. In addition to recording covers such as Black Sabbath's "Into the Void" (Master of Reality, 1971) and Hawkwind's "Brainstorm" (Doremi Fasol Latido, 1972), Wyndorf sometimes incorporated elements of space rock staples into his own songs. For instance, the Dopes to Infinity title track borrows some of its lyrics from "Lord of Light" (ibid.), and Superjudge's "Twin Earth" is a reinterpretation of Captain Beyond's "Mesmerization Eclipse" (Captain Beyond, 1972). The main guitar riff to the track Dopes To Infinity is lifted from The Sir Lord Baltimore song "Woman Tamer" (Sir Lord Baltimore,1971). The band has also cited British new wave / post-punk band Depeche Mode as an influence on its music. They have also covered "Black Celebration" for a 1998 Depeche Mode tribute album.

Scientists at Brookhaven National Laboratory are testing a magnet assembly for a new kind of particle accelerator for cancer therapy. Designed by Brookhaven scientists in partnership with Best Medical International (Springfield, Virginia), the accelerator—an “ion Rapid Cycling Medical Synchrotron” (iRCMS)—has the potential to deliver precisely controlled particle beams (protons and/or carbon ions) that destroy cancerous tumors while minimizing damage to healthy tissue.
The white stuff on the roll is magnet wire whereas, I believe, the battery and wires on top of the role tell them if there's a short occurs while they're winding the magnet.

Just a photo of some of the magnets on my fridge. We used this photo to show case the dice magnets that we made for www.worldofdice.com. But as you can see there is also a kermit magnet, a think geek annoyatron, and a magnet that says its good to be queen.
