The Hooded Merganser:
Spotted this Female Hooded Merganser Strutting Her Stuff after finishing a breakfast of Frog Legs alfresco. The legs were still attached to the frog, so it took her awhile to dine, but she seems to have had a Happy Ending : )
Hooded Mergansers are fairly common on small ponds and rivers, where they dive for fish, crayfish, and other food, seizing it in their thin, serrated bills. They find their prey underwater by sight. They can actually change the refractive properties of their eyes to improve their underwater vision. In addition, they have an extra eyelid, called a “nictitating membrane,” which is transparent and helps protect the eye during swimming, like a pair of goggles.
Hooded Merganser ducklings leave their nest cavity within 24 hours of hatching. First, their mother checks the area around the nest and calls to the nestlings from ground level. From inside the nest, the little fluffballs scramble up to the entrance hole and then flutter to the ground, which may be 50 feet or more below them. In some cases, they have to walk half a mile or more with their mother to the nearest body of water.
The oldest recorded Hooded Merganser was a male and at least 14 years, 6 months old when he was shot in Mississippi in 2009. He had been banded in Minnesota in 1995.

* We made a trip to Filey the other day I have not visited this little town for some time . It sits between Bridlington and Scarborough it's also at the end of the Wolds Way trail. This is a shot of the Brigg or as it is known locally Carr Naze. It was used in many of East Yorkshire cowboy films .
When you stand on the beach at Filey you can really see how the way the landscape changes on the East Coast of Yorkshire . If you look south you are able to see the sheer vertical Cliffs at Bempton these are chalk cliffs , in fact the northernmost chalk cliff in Britain. I have posted many shots of these cliffs as it is the site of the RSPB bird reserve .
If however you look to the North, Filey Brigg’s crumbling red cliffs look like badlands from the Wild West. The cliffs of Carr Naze, especially on the side facing the bay, are mostly composed of glacial deposits which are soft and easily eroded. Underlying these, and showing more clearly on the seaward side, are a succession of limestone and sandstone strata. At low tide these rocks can be seen to form an extensive platform on the bay side and towards Brigg End

I made my annual pilgrimage to the Wooden Shoe Tulip fields just east of Woodburn Oregon.
I had been waiting a long time for Mother Nature to cooperate, and she finally did.
Getting up at 4:00 AM in the morning to get there before sunrise was well worth it!
The sun was just coming up over the horizon and just to the right of Mt. Hood.
This image will start out a series of tulip photographs that I will be posting in the days to come.
Have a wonderful Friday and upcoming weekend everyone! :-)

I made a lot of photos of this little origami King Dragon, because of the various expressions it got, depending on the position of the head, besides that it was fun folding it ;-))
In this shot one can see a figure like mythological person instead of a dragon. That's the reason I show you this last version of this lovely origami model. I processed the photo to give it a more magical look.
In the first comment box you can see two previous photos of the same model.
Enjoy your Sunday and stay safe ;-)

These criminals who wrecked our towns, hate Holland. They hate dutch people. It's great to be here....pffff . The drawing is done in red white and blue. Orange is our king's last name. I gave the table an innocent pink cloth which is now torn:-)

Made from a collage of mine of bedroom doors open and I also went to Duygu Bruce website and found a picture of Hypnos, the God of Sleep and his Powers and copied it and abstracted it. I did not find any copyright information, if I am incorrect about being able to use it, I am more than willing to take this work down:
