Mad in Paris

I had been taking photos of Petal sitting on the window sill (see a couple of photos back) when I became aware of something happening behind me. Looking around to find the cats transfixed on the wall & ceiling by the reflections cast from my camera as I moved it around. They spent the rest of the day on high alert!

Recently MAD Magazine came out with their special 70th Anniversary issue! What marks this issue as something special is that they published some new material! I’m in it too! Not my work, but me! On the left is a hysterical double-pager by Tom Bunk. He has drawn all of the Usual Gang of Idiots. You can find me at the bottom center sketching with my coffee behind me, plus the added enlargement. This piece takes some time to look at because, as usual, he’s got everything in it! On the right a panel from a very funny three pager titled, “Hijinks On The High Seas! A True MAD Tale Aboard A Cruise To Bermuda.” Written by former editor, John Ficarra, and illustrated by former art-director, Sam Viviano. This is the story about the 1991 cruise when the MAD staff, and their significant others, played one of the best practical jokes on publisher, Bill Gaines. We recreated the famous stateroom scene from the Marx Brothers movie “A Night at the Opera” in his cabin. It was hysterical!! This panel has me doing what I loved to do back then. Annoy people with my tap dancing. And there’s Brenda on the left! It was an honor to be drawn by two of my favorite MAD artists!

Below, as a comment, is the fantastic wrap-around by Mark Fredrickson.

I had so much fun making my Road Warrior figures I decided that I'd make the cast of characters for my second favorite film in the franchise, the original Mad Max. Don't hate me putting this one before Fury Road, I just genuinely enjoyed it a tad bit more. I'm doing the movies in order of which I enjoyed them, so will be making the characters of that movie next, so stay tuned for those. Anyways, I hope that you all enjoyed. Thanks! -Michael

Hey guys! In case you didn't know, I'm a massive Mad Max fan, and I realized just yesterday that I don't have a single Mad Max related photo on my stream, so I figured that I should make some figures from my favorite film in the series: The Road Warrior. Most of the figures didn't really have names in the film, save the Feral Kid, The Gyro Captain, and of course Max Rackantansky himself. The others were in the film of course, only were never given a name/title so I'm not really sure what to refer to them as. By the way, note that these may not be extremlly accuarte becuase I haven't seen the movie in a little while now. Anyway, I had a blast making these, since apocalypse characters are my specialty when it comes to making figures. I'm planning on making the rosters for the others films as well, so be on the look out for that. I'd also love to know if you are a Mad Max fan, and if so, what is your favorite film out of the four? Hope you enjoy guys! :) -Michael

No doubt that Alice in Wonderland is one of the greatest books in the world. Full of mysteries and intriguing thoughts it became favourite not only for children, but for the grown-ups.

I remember last time rereading it during the meetings at work. The meetings themselves were pure nonsense, leading nowhere, stealing the time of the workers. And as Alice thinks herself: if something has no meaning, why no to create the meaning for yourself? So did I. I dived into the book and looked at it sometimes as a grown-up, sometimes as a child. The lines of the book became a thick forest you want to explore.

Here are my ultimate favourite quotes from the book:

“My dear, here we must run as fast as we can, just to stay in place. And if you wish to go anywhere you must run twice as fast as that.”

“If everybody minded their own business, the world would go around a great deal faster than it does.”

Alice: “Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”

The Cheshire Cat: “That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.”

Alice: “I don’t much care where…”

The Cheshire Cat: Then it doesn’t matter which way you go.”

Aren’t these quotes great? Pure joy :) And for today’s photo I suggest a mad version of our beloved Alice.

Mad Love, voted First Place in the Eurobricks Comic Cover Contest, November 2012

----------------------

I would first like to blame Oky for this little beauty. I say blame because it was his words about the great Mad Love comic cover on Eurobricks that convinced me to give it a second thought. Originally, I was going to make The Dark Knight Returns my entry into the Eurobricks Comic Cover Contest—but it didn’t turn out too interesting. I had passed on Mad Love in the beginning since it seemed too hard, and boy was I right! Anyways, thanks Oky for inadvertently convincing me to make this.

Mad Love is by far one of my favorite Batman comics (And it’s really one of the best). Now for my entry everything seemed to be keeping me back. First, I being convinced in the beginning that I’d do Returns so I left my copy of Mad Love (With the giant picture of this cover!) in my dorm while I returned home for the holidays. Crap. Second, being home meant being with all my Legos and therefore searching through buckets for pieces. That one dam tube around Harley’s eye…I searched and searched forever for a matching second one—never found it. But actually these hold backs improved my model since it forced me to improvise with other pieces. In addition I really like this creation since it just seems like a lot—compared to boring covers/creations that are just minifigures.

Personally, I love this! The form on Harley is perfect, and I her gun turned out great. The only thing I don’t like too much is the scale of the Joker, who would perhaps look better if he were bigger—but eh, purple is rare. Anyways, enjoy—and vote! ;)

I saw him coming toward me in downtown Toronto. He paused in spite of the light rain falling as I introduced myself and asked if I could make a quick street portrait.

He told me he was in a hurry but when I asked for 15 seconds, he said "Fine."

He told me he is Mad Dog and he plays the guitar. "I busk on Queen Street East, the Beaches area."

I thanked him and said I may meet him again in the Beaches on a more pleasant day and we headed our separate ways in the rain.

Mad Max is part of a community started project in the great southern of Western Australia.

The Highway is a dynamic route with an ever changing face with new machines being added frequently. Running along the Broomehill-Gnowangerup Road and through to the Stirling Range National Park along the Formby South, there is plenty of tractors on display!

Madrid airport has just opened a new terminal, the 4th.

This place is impressive. Architects (Richard Rogers & Antonio Lamela) have played with curves, shapes and color very nicely. It's a kind of organic.

On this picture, each pillar is actually painted with a different blue, it's not a post-treatment effect. But the main color of the airport is yellow which goes with Spain's stereotype of sun and holidays.

There's about 300 of them. It make a rainbow.

I love it.

According to my ruller on Google Earth, MAD terminal is 1.16km (0.72 mile) long!

The Academy was built in 1871 by Mother Joseph, of the Sisters of Providence. Dedicated in 1873, in 1874 the first of the "incorrigibles" came to live in it's boarding school. Strange things began to happen soon after Mother Joseph died there. Girls disappeared, unexplained "accidents" happened. Three girls mysteriously "fell" to their deaths from the top of the huge chimney, partially seen here. It's all documented. No one knows the real story, or why it's ghosts continue to walk the grounds... if you look closely, maybe you will find some. Shhhhhh don't wake them tho! It's a mad world.

Had an idea to do a working Lego videogame of Mad Max, styled as a classic Lego platforming puzzle game with little to no spoken word and all the visual comedy. I started this two years ago and all I've got is this car. By the looks of things, I can import Stud.io files to systems like Unreal Engine and convert them to working game assets, though I am not sure. That will be a task for another day.
