And bicycle chain. The Clark Telescope was constructed by a couple bicycle repair guys. Their motto was "we'll fix anything." Lowell took them up on it.
The guy that discovered Pluto had to look at thousands of comparison photos that looked like this, trying to find the teeny dot that moved against the background stars. I wonder if it made him blind, or insane?
Lowell had 6 glass plates of Mars observations annotated and turned into this 6-sided floor lamp. Our guide let me and another photographer into a locked room off the Library to take this quick photograph.

This is our guide who shared her wealth of knowledge of everything about the Lowell Observatory. The chair on the small platform above her head is where astronomers sit when making some of their observations. Ford truck tires are used to allow the dome to rotate smoothly.
