London Pub Project #24

Southgate, North London

Alexandra Palace, North London

Broomfield Park, Palmers Green, North London

Broomfield house was sold to London merchant Joseph Jackson in 1624 after several previous occupants. During the 150 years that the Jackson family were in possession of the house, the house was internally remodelled to a considerable extent. The grand staircase was built and murals were painted by Gerard Lanscroon, and the surrounding Broomfield Park was created. During the late 18th century to early 19th century the once U-shaped building was altered into a rectangular shape, enclosing the once east-facing courtyard. After a period where the house was let to tenants, the house and 54 acres (220,000 m2) of land were sold for development to Southgate Urban District Council, who opened the park to the public in 1903.

Between 1907 and 1910 the building housed Southgate County School, with Southgate's first maternity centre opening there in 1917. The building was classified as Grade II* in 1950 because of its history and architectural uniqueness.

This is one of the decorated boats in our city's annual Venetian Night Boat Parade, where the boats put on a lovely show, parading down the river.

Part of our city's 4th of July festivities, always scheduled the evening of the 3rd of July.

Sunset from Overstrand to Cromer.

I have seen this while walking on a street. I tried to get close up first time with this lense with lovely colourful bokeh & this is the outcome.

thanks for every one for views, faves, and comments.

A dark, hazy sunrise gave Southwest Harbor, ME an interesting look on this early October, 2021 morning.

The Shambles in York.

Standing on the wet algae which grows on the rocks, this shorebird was feeding on the little crustaceans that live in and around the algae.

It stopped for a few seconds to give me a chance to capture its cuteness :)

World's first steam powered clock

Historic Gastown

Vancouver, British Columbia

Canada

The insides of this clock is where the magic begins....

Built in 1977. Raymond Saunders' first steam clock was built in 1977 to solve the issue of a steam vent in a popular sidewalk for the renovated Gastown district of Vancouver. Owned by the City of Vancouver, BC Canada

The steam clock's plaque reads:

THE GASTOWN STEAM CLOCK

Designed and built by

Raymond L. Saunders

Horologist

The world's first steam powered clock has been created for the enjoyment of everyone. The live steam winds the weights and blows the whistles. Every 4.5 minutes one steel weight will travel by steam power to the top of the clock. The gravity driven "falling ball" drive was 'engineered' by Douglas L. Smith. Each quarter hour the clock will sound the Westminster Chimes. The large whistle will sound once on the hour. The steam is supplied by the underground system of Central Heat Distributor's Limited. The component parts cost $42,000 and the clock weighs over two tons.

A few years ago the clock was refit and is not entirely steam powered. It also has three small electric motors to help operate two internal fans, one of which blows the steam out the top, and another that controls the valves that play the tunes on the five steam whistles mounted atop the clock case.

The large central whistle, which was taken off the CPR steam tug Naramata, counts off the full hours while the four auxiliary whistles chime the Westminster Quarters every quarter hour. The number of chimes matches the number of quarter hours that have passed.

Lomochrome Purple Film ~ Canon AE-1P 50mm f/1.4

This amazing eclipse was captured seven minutes past the Total Eclipse on May 15, 2022.

In our city of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, the total eclipse happened at 11:11 pm, and this was captured at 11:18 pm.

This was May 2022's full moon which is called the Flower Moon.

It was also a Supermoon, which is when the Moon’s orbit is closest to Earth at the same time the Moon is full.

It is also called a Blood Moon due to the red color seen during the eclipse. Why red? It is because the eclipse causes the shadow cast by the Earth to land on the Moon's typically ivory surface. The reason the Moon turns the amber color is because red is the only color with a light wavelength long enough to “get around” the Earth.

I should have used my tripod for this capture, but instead I placed my camera and lens on my car roof, angling it just right and giving me a steady capture.

I'm not sure what the two bright bodies are above and below the moon, whether stars or planets. If you know, please inform me in the comment section- I would love to know :)

Enjoy!
