Originally we headed for the Spanish Stairs in Rome on this particular morning. But the stairs were under reconstruction and we went for the Pantheon instead. I don not regret that.

The Labor University of Gijón (today, City of Culture).

Its history begins during the Second Republic, with the idea of building a mining orphanage for the children of deceased workers.

However, the construction did not take place until 1946, with the dictatorship in place, and with a very different idea and much greater in volume and importance than the original project: to create a labor university.

The castle includes the final resting place of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife Sophie, whose assassinations in June 1914 touched off the events that led to WWI.

We caught him at Ashland and again at Louisville but decided we would get one more of him going over the bridge at Plattsmouth.

Originally, Sam and I planned to set up shop at the crossing to the east of here and do a long telephoto with him coming down the hill. However, as we got to Plattsmouth, Jamison sent us the photo he got at Cullom where they kicked the nose door open on him. So, we decided to change plans and set up for the wide shot of him coming over the bridge.

Once we had gotten to Louisville, our group had grown to include Ryan, Oliver, and Paul, and once this guy was through, we set up and took a group photo on the bridge. The recent passing of a longtime Lincoln railfan made us realize the lack of photos we all have together, and we are making an effort to document our outings together to have forever. RIP Tom.
