While thinking what photo to post for this theme, I immediately thought of a candle of course : symbol of hope, thought and solidarity. And I found this photo in my files, seeing two piercing "eyes" in it, which made the meaning all the more suitable and powerful, wouldn't you say?

We waited out a rainstorm inside an old building. I just loved the view from the inside. Apparently Jurasic Park was filmed somewhere near this valley, in the Dominican Republic.

I had the incredible luck to visit Cambodia and Thailand a couple of weeks ago. Walking through Phnom Penh was an interesting feeling- one I hadn't felt since 1993, when I walked through East Berlin. Growing up with the Cold War and Communism these places were off limits. But no more.
Camdobia was a gruesome place a few decades ago, thanks to the tyrant Pol Pot. This lady would have witnessed some of the killing of 25% of Cambodia's population under this paranoid monster.
Cambodia today is quite poor, but there are signs of promise. I saw the bad side, to be sure, but much good in the works, if the area can get it's act together more solidly, there is a lot of promise. Certainly the people I met were great, kind and courteous.
I hope these girls grow up to see something much better than what their mother witnessed.
I'll be slowly uploading pictures in the coming weeks. Alas, this was a side trip to a busines trip, so no Angkor Wat, as I only had a couple of days in each country to get a taste, and visit some friends there (I have a friend that lives in Phnom Penh and another in Bangkok). Future trip...
Looking out from the simple interior of the Immaculate Conception Chapel. Situated at the end of the Marfa Ridge, the former 19th century chapel was completely rebuilt in the 1960s after the land the original stood on collapsed into the sea.

"Someday a real rain will come and wash all this scum off the streets." - Taxi Driver
Well we just had to take a ride on the 418, Alnwick to Belford coastal bus service, and what a pleasurable and memorable trip it was too. The picture shows our bus (Travelsure's YX11CRV) arriving in the fishing village of Craster.

“Looking out over the lake, I felt enveloped in the most peaceful, loving utopia.”- Laurie Kahn.

When I first saw this image, it was cause to think about living life transparently: not only my looking out, but others looking in. Was my life being perceived the same way I perceived it? Was my life congruous with what others perceived? Greenery and plants always speak to me about life and living, and under the "glass" is about authenticity. I hope and pray they are one in the same!
Hope you all are having a life~in~the~window, summery Sunday!
Burlington, Vermont USA • Seen from my apartment, through a leaded-glass window, looking to the west, to the First Unitarian Universalist Society Church, at the north terminus of the Church Street Marketplace.
Erected in 1816 when Burlington was a small town, the Unitarian Church is located on a lot purchased in 1814. The land originally extended to North Street and included Elmwood Cemetery. All houses in the area bounded by Elmwood Avenue, Grant Street and Clarke Street are built upon land still leased to their owners by the church. …
The Boston architect Peter Banner, who also drew plans for the Boston Park Street Church. The building, solidly constructed with large hand-hewed timbers from the Brown's River area of Jericho, held together with wooden pins, has been remodeled several times, inside and out. In 1845 it was "Greek Revivalized" with addition of the massive cornice, bricked-in shortened windows, and brick pilasters at the corners. In 1832 blinds in the spire were removed and glazed windows with fanlights installed. …
The present church bell and clock date from 1928. The "town clock" is a Howard, made by the same company that manufactured the large clocks at Ira Allen Chapel at UVM and the one at City Hall. It replaced one donated by Hervey Burnett in 1873. Before his gift, clock faces covered only three sides of thew tower, but Burnett insisted there be four so that the people in the ten rapidly expanding North End could know the time of day also.

The city of Detroit - so many things wrong, yet so much that I love. This image - a lot of things I'd like to change if I had the opportunity to try this one again, yet so many redeeming qualities to it as well. Myself - hey... I notice a trend here...
