Andrew Hazelden and Martin Beek at Yarnton Pottery on 12th September with just twelve days to go til their show opens in Bampton.

This will take place on Saturday, 24 September from 12noon to 2pm at West Ox Arts Gallery in Bampton, OX18 2JH, www.westoxarts.com.

I will show a number of large-scale oil paintings that I painted in plein-air while in an area of stunning woodlands in Walden, Michigan, over the summer. There will also be some iPad drawings created in the woods. America during the summer months, with the heat and sunlight, injects a new kind of excitement into my work. These woods have an important sentimental attachment, and I have sought to paint and draw them with as much dedication as I would a portrait of a friend. I am very excited to be able to show you these paintings.

Andrew will show some of his beautiful traditional pottery, with pieces made specifically for the exhibition. Andrew makes pottery that is functional, so creating beautiful objects to enhance everyday life.

Both Andrew and I strive to make artworks that connect with nature, and we believe this can be achieved only by looking out.

We would be delighted if you could join us for the opening reception. The exhibition runs until 16 October and is open Tuesday to Saturday 11.30am to 4.30pm, Sunday 2.00pm to 4.00pm. There is free parking outside the gallery, including disabled parking. You can find more information on the Facebook events page.

I will also give a talk at the gallery on 6 October at 7pm. Do contact me if you are interested in attending.

Creative Interpretation of an afternoon shot facing the sun at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Marlin, Texas. Initially, I thought that the halos around the church bothered me, but after processing it without them, I found that I liked it better with them there, so here it is. I like the heavenly glow they add to it.

A whole bunch of these were growing in a wildflower field. Each one was a single column 3-4 feet tall. This shot is looking straight down from above. The leaves make an interesting spiral pattern.

How much are those doggos in the window?

Another shot of winglets, clouds, and blue skies. It's a sickness. I get inside a plane, I take pictures.

Working on drawings in the woodland at Camp Walden. Alongside the large paintings I also drew a number of full sized charcoal drawings en situ and filled a number of sketchbooks.

Among the many drawings I did this summer were two concertina sketchbooks , drawn in the woodlands at Walden. These follow in the style of my "Red Notebooks" drawn at Simon's Wood in the winter this past year. They are to be viewed asa scroll and therefore do not have a single vanishing point, rather they are are from multiple angles as I worked in the woods. Drawn in ink and graphite.

Don't even like this shot. Been uninspired lately and have not picked up my camera in about a week.

Must get out of this funk and pick up my Nikon baby!

An old late 1800s Catholic seminary situated in a beautiful countryside location. Nature has taken its course in more ways than one.

IMG_1179r Built 1614 as link between Doge's Palace and New Prisons. The enclosed bridge is made of white limestone, has windows with stone bars, and passes over the Rio di Palazzo and connects the New Prison (Prigioni Nuove) to the interrogation rooms in the Doge's Palace. It was designed by Antonio Contino (whose uncle Antonio da Ponte had designed the Rialto Bridge) and was built in 1600. The view from the Bridge of Sighs was the last view of Venice that convicts saw before their imprisonment. The bridge's name, given by Lord Byron as a translation from the Italian "Ponte dei sospiri" in the 19th century comes from the suggestion that prisoners would sigh at their final view of beautiful Venice through the window before being taken down to their cells. In reality, the days of inquisitions and summary executions were over by the time the bridge was built and the cells under the palace roof were occupied mostly by small-time criminals. In addition, little could be seen from inside the bridge due to the stone grills covering the windows.

According to a local legend, lovers will be granted eternal love and bliss if they kiss on a gondola at sunset, under the Bridge of Sighs, as the bells of St Mark's Campanile toll.

Week 16 is about glass but not necessarily windows. While I was working I spotted this collection of bottles in a window and thought it fitted the bill nicely. I asked and was permitted to get the view looking out. As you can see the colours are varied as are the shapes of the bottles. It seems a shame that fancy bottles like these are not the norm, most of these date from the late 19th century and earlt 20th century. I like the pink ones! I also like the richness of the blue ones.

Theme of The Week - Hockney collage

I got laser eye surgery on Thursday. It fixed my vision to 20/20, but unfortunately, I didn't get laser vision...

The view from my kitchen window. It was an inspiring way to begin every day (and end it as well). Gothic towers have such a pleasantly mysterious form to them, it excites the imagination in the most pleasant of ways.

Theme Of The Week - Frames within frames.

My house has a strange little room that has doorway on each of the 4 walls.

I took this image yesterday whilst shooting at Herstmonceux Castle for my first ever short film. I can't wait to start piecing the puzzle together and show you guys the finished edit.

I'm really excited to try something different, and to expand on my photography. The finished film may suck, but that's okay. Why? Because I'm not taking this too seriously. It's fun for me to do this. This is just something I enjoy doing, and hopefully others enjoy seeing what I come up with, and that's it.
