MLK Jr. Blvd - Highway 80 appeared to be the main thoroughfare for moving logs to a mill. Apparently the timber business is booming there.

All week, I have heard the sound of chain saws and heavy equipment next door. This afternoon, I finally took my camera and went to investigate. As I made my way through the woods behind our house, I saw footprints and broken ferns showing where men had tramped to find the property line. On the other side of the property line, this is what I saw.

Panthera tigris sumatrae
The smallest of the tiger sub-species, the Sumatran Tiger is classed as Critically Endangered.
The increase in logging together with clearance for agriculture and settlements has decreased their habit markedly.
There are now thought to be less than 650 individuals in the wild with numbers still declining.
Unfortunately poaching and illegal hunting have also contributed to the decline in numbers.
Sadly it appears that this will be another animal driven to extinction in the not too distant future.
Quite good on Black :-)
Ever wonder what it takes to build a log house. These are pictures of the entire construction of our house from October 2006 to Nov 2007. It might take me a few days to put them all up, so if you're looking at these as I am posting them, check back for the rest.
I'll add these all to me log home set, so it might be easier to click that set to the right and go from there (I'll try to get them in order the best I can).
If you have any questions about the construction, feel free to ask. I was there pretty much everday and then I was there everyday after I fired our general contractor and had to finish his work myself.
Feel free to leave comments.

Petrified log captured at the Petrified Forest NP, northeastern Arizona. Petrified logs are fossils created by replacement of organic matter over time by mineral matter, primarily silica. The colors are determined by the minerals; red, yellow and brown from iron, blue and green from cobalt and chromium, black from carbon and manganese.
