They just re-opened one of the old saw mills that closed down 3 years ago. The mill's been retooled to handle smaller logs and in the process, brought back 70 very needed jobs to this very depressed area. The possibility of 35 to 70 more depends on if there is enough work to put on a second shift...

The far end of the Log Train Trail in the Alberni Valley.
Taken on a trip to Mount Hal and Mount Irwin in the Beaufort Range.
That long structure on top was a conveyor belt that dropped the rock into the crusher.
Mine maintenance lasted from 1948 to 1968. The property was then sold to the Boy Scouts of America. After that, President Nixon lifted the gold standard in August 15, 1971. A few companies leased the property from the Boy Scouts, but nothing ever really came from that. The property was then acquired by the U.S. Forest service on February 20, 1991. Gold still remains.
