When walking up Loftus High Street, the first view you get of Postman Pat, is his nose protruding at letterbox slot level!

This is what was the Loftus Tram Shed looked like until someone burnt it down 2 weeks ago, Spoiling what was a magical place to visit. Its reminds me of a rule all photographers should abide by.

Loftus, North Yorkshire. (07.07.18).

Inspired by Kensington Olympia, Loftus Road represents a slice of suburban West London in the 90s and 00s. More about the layout can be found at www.worthingmrc.co.uk

So the story goes that on a stormy night with the seas choppy and rough a dark stranger approached the Hall on horseback after his ship was driven into nearby slade Harbour. He was invited in to seek shelter and spent some days with the family. The young Lady Anne Tottenham fell head over heels for this dark stranger, until one night during a card game, she dropped a card and upon bending down to retrieve it, she noticed that this dark stranger had cloven hoofs instead of feet. As soon as he realised what she had seen, he shot through the roof in a ball of flames.

Anne never recovered, she went into a state of shock and madness and her family locked her in the tapestry room for fear that anyone would see her. It’s said her ghost walks the halls at night. My interpretation of the strangers arrival at #loftushall #irelands_folklore #Wexford #irelandsancienteast #placestovisit #extraordinaryintheordinary

Loftus Hall is a large mansion house on the Hook peninsula, Co. Wexford that is said to have been haunted by the devil and by the ghost of a young woman.

Another version of this great puzzle cut by Terry Walters of Laura Knight's 1943 painting "Ruby Loftus Screwing a Breech-ring". The image portrays Ruby working in an anti-aircraft factory and was used to promote such war work during WW2

"Dimpled-cheeked and fresh-faced, her auburn curls spilling out from under a bright green hairnet, the eponymous Ruby Loftus stares intently and resolutely at the complex machining work in progress. She is making the screw of the breech ring for a Bofors gun, a double-barrelled 40 mm anti-aircraft weapon. Her slender oil-glistened hands rest lightly but firmly on the lathe and demonstrate her skill and authority, while the surrounding callipers, spanners, blocks and other ‘tools of the trade’ confirm her status. Behind her a dozen anonymous women are hard at work on their benches. There is one token male. Ruby's rich auburn tresses (the other women all wear red turbans or full snood caps), smooth brow, pencilled eyebrows and lipstick accentuate her femininity (no protective eyewear to spoil the impact), while her rolled-up sleeves and grubby oil stains stress the masculinity of her work. Decked out patriotically in a red neckerchief, a white apron and blue overalls, she is a pretty young woman doing a man's job—elegant and heroic at the same time. ‘Beauty as duty’ was one of the Ministry of Supply's many propaganda messages and Laura Knight's Ruby Loftus was voted ‘picture of the year’ at London's Royal Academy Summer Exhibition (1943) achieving cult status as an icon of wartime endeavour.

In the farthest north eastern reaches of North Yorkshire lies the small town of Loftus, an Urban District until 1974's local government re-organisation saw it swallowed up into the short lived Langbaurgh. It is now part of the unitary Borough of Redcar & Cleveland, but still most definitely Yorkshire by heritage. The town hall seems ornate for a lowly UDC HQ - it was built with funds provided by the Earl of Zetland, in whose family it remained until 1948 when it was purchased by the UDC. The clock does not have a southern face - apparently the people of south Loftus were unwilling to contribute to the cost! Since 1992 a re-constituted Loftus Town Council has had responsibility for the building which was threatened with closure by Redcar & Cleveland. The hall is available for hire. Arriva Sapphire Streetlite NK64EFH heads south past this impressive building.

The line from Loftus into the Royal National Park was once part of the NSW Railway network with electric trains working in to a normal timetable. When closed the tramway museum was able to take it over and now forms their running line. It crosses the busy Princes Highway which limits the times that trams can operate, especially during the week because of the possible traffic congestion at peak times. Given the width of the road and the traffic levels, it is potentially a dangerous crossing too.
