A group of localized aurora, as we were not supposed to be in the aurora forecast coverage area. Most photos are not perfectly sharp, and have been adjusted to remove excess noise. Saturation has been increased by no more than six, though brightness was decreased to between -10 and -25.

These localized storms seem to be a fairly common feature of the Northern Arizona and Southern Utah landscape.

I'm in LA with a task, rebuild this localizer at LAX. At 10 oclock we had the word go and the equipment was ours. We have a week to rebuild this from the ground up...time to make tracks.

In Slavutych, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his wife Olena paid tribute to the Ukrainians who eliminated the consequences of the 1986 Chornobyl nuclear power plant accident.

“38 years ago, the Chornobyl disaster occurred. A radiation accident whose consequences went far beyond Ukraine, and even our entire Europe. The world felt that disaster. But still, it was localized. People stood up to defend life and fulfilled their duty,” the Head of the State said.

The memory of heroes — liquidators of the Chornobyl disaster was honored with a minute of silence.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked everyone who protected lives 38 years ago and presented the Orders of Merit of the third class and the Orders “For Courage” of the third class to Chornobyl NPP employees and liquidators of the accident.

The President expressed his respect to all the people in Slavutych for saving us all then and helping Ukraine in the spring of 2022, during the full-scale Russian invasion.

“Slavutych did not submit to the occupiers. It showed its temper. It fought. It defended itself. And we all saw you right here on this square. We also saw the heroism of those of our people who worked shifts at the station during the Russian occupation. People saved Ukraine in 2022, and it is only people, our entire nation, that will defeat Putin. No evil can stand against brave people who do everything to protect life,” he noted.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also talked to the residents of Slavutych, including the relatives of the captured National Guardsmen, who appealed to the Head of State to return the Chornobyl NPP defenders home.

“We will definitely return everything. Not only our territory, but first of all our people, all our POWs: both military and civilians, warriors of both our Armed Forces and our National Guard. We remember everyone. We will definitely do it,” the President assured.

Localized and sporadic at this sandy site and co-occurring with a close legume relative (in tribe Amorpheae), Parryella filifolia (common dunebroom), a shrub and subshrub that is much more abundant. Annual bromegrasses were essentially absent from this area.

So I went walking on a bleak day a couple of weeks ago and stumbled upon this: Snow in a Chicago street. Now, in principle this shouldn't be an Earth-shattering discovery, but a couple of things will stand out to a Chicagoan about a scene like this. The most significant is that this is Milwaukee Avenue at its intersection with Fullerton, one of the busier intersections on the near northwest side. Unless the snow is actually falling at that moment, the City of Chicago will never allow more than one or two isolated flakes to sit on the pavement at the intersection of two arterials. Any mayor who let this happen would be at severe risk of getting Byrned. (A reference to former Mayor Jane Byrne, who won an election in the turbulent period between Daleys because one of the more significant blizzards in city history hit a week or so before election day, and the incumbent got the blame when Streets & San took more than 24 hours to clear the streets.)

Something was up.

This petrol station, localized in a small supermarket is currently being rebuild. A WashTec SoftCare used to be here but got abandonned qute quickly. I think the main raison was the car wash center just in front. But as you can see, the mechanical room hasn't been dismanteled. I think there's a chance to see a car wash again here ! maps.app.goo.gl/msBaxvStRab2jq857

Day one hundred nine/365. The snow, the wind, the cold. It's been since Saturday! Today, our local area received heavy squalls all morning. Travel was difficult. But, people coming from only ten miles away, in any direction, were reporting bare roads where they lived! It's amazing, how local the weather can be!

The weather is very localized here... as in it can be tropical downpouring 1km away from where it's hot and sunny.

This is looking south down the east coast of nevis. Just around that bend is the Four Seasons and Pinney's Beach, and beyond that is the main town, Charlestown.

The south and eastern sides of the island seem to get a lot rain. The volcano, Mount Nevis, is to blame for a lot of the cloud activity here.

You can see the left side of the picture, there is very dark clouds and it's pouring. The right side is clear, hot and sunny!
