This was without a doubt the best day of our trip. We went out with Einar and his son from Öræfaferðir / Local Guide Travel Service. They were both amazing, and we would highly recommend their services! Please feel free to check out the link below for more information.

Our second stop was to head into an amazing ice cave adjacent to the Svínafellsjökull Outlet on Vatnajökull Glacier. Being in these caves was unlike anything we've ever experienced. They were well insulated so it wasn't extremely cold, but the textures and formations were completely otherworldly. The ice will often take on a rich, deep blue color in these caves. However, we were told that because it was a bright and sunny day, that blue became more of the aqua/teal type color you see here.

Interestingly, due to the constant changing of the glaciers and temperature changes, these ice caves are rarely ever around for more than a couple of weeks at a time. You can go back every year and have a completely different experience every time. We were told that the ice caves we enjoyed, for example, were gone within a week of our visit.

I thought about going exploring up on the glaciers of Iceland, but I had bigger plans to explore underneath them. Months before going to Iceland, I did my research and decided to line up an ice cave tour at Skaftafell in Vatnajökull National Park. I was actually too early to get pay but I showed some persistence and eventually got lined up for not one but two ice cave tours.

I'm really glad I did (reserve two trips) because on this, the second day, we had a lot of overnight rain that caused the river to swell - blocking our access to all but the beginning of the cave. Sure, it was disappointing but I was determined to make the most of it. After all, the rippled reflections on the icy ceiling and the cool blue tones of the cave behind me sure made for a great scene!

There is a lot more to this post... see the rest of the backstory, how I got the shot, and get free wallpaper from www.coloradocaptures.com/ice-cave-illumination-iceland

We had so much fun hiking on glaciers our first time in Iceland that we had to make sure we could do it again on our second trip. We went out with Aron from Öræfaferðir / Local Guide Travel Service again, this time for a glacier hike on the Fjallsjökull Outlet of the Vatnajökull Glacier. We would highly recommend their services! Please feel free to check out the link below for more information.

This shot is looking down the glacier towards the parking area. You can see that the glacier runs off and transitions into mountains and rocks in the distance.

Damit ich zukünftig noch flotter unterwegs sein kann, hat mir GOOGLE ein paar Socken geschickt. Ich bin mir allerdings nicht sicher, wann .. wo .. und ob ich sie überhaupt tragen soll .. 😜👉

GOOGLE sent me a pair of socks so that I can be even faster on the road in the future. However, I'm not sure when.. where.. and if I should even wear them.. 😜👉

I was doing a backbend to get the window behind me.

turns out my dentist appt. yesterday was just a consultation type thing. took about 20 x-rays, did a brief cleaning and discussed my future work. I haven't been to this dentist in so long, I forgot how much I like him. I'm not even terrified of going back for my next FOUR appointments. Scared, yes. Terrified, not so much.

Anyhow, we celebrated the fact that I did not have to endure any torturous dental pain yesterday by going to our new favorite sushi place, Izumi in Bethpage. I feel a bit bad - we had been going to Ozumo, also in Bethpage, for so long. We were regulars there, had our own table and everything, but this new place - wow. So fresh and different and so many other options besides the usual rolls. There are only so many combos of tuna/salmon/tempura/tobiko/rice you can take before it become like Taco Bell - a hundred foods on the menu, all with the same five ingredients.

My favorite things at Izumi are the ones not wrapped in rice - we had something wrapped in a thin layer of cucumber last night that was amazing. The sauces are rich and tasty without being overpowering. Everything tastes fresh. Plus, the service is excellent. There is nothing that sours you on a place like having to wait half an hour after you are done eating for someone to bring your check.

So we are not so much cheating on Ozumo, as leaving them for a younger, sexier sushi experience. It's like a sushi mid life crisis.
