Light The North charity fundraising art trail goes live on Monday 9th August 2021, this is a regular fundraising event that raises much needed cash for various good causes each year , this year it is Clan Cancer Support , the lighthouse sculptures have already started to be placed in their designated spots in time for the launch on the 9th August , I have tracked some of those down and hopefully will complete the trail over the coming weeks , posting all my shots of my progress in this album .

Fifty stunning lighthouse sculptures are being installed this week, ready for the launch of Clan’s spectacular Light The North art trail.

The 2.5 metre-tall pieces, painted by some of the UK’s most talented artists, will shine a light across Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Orkney and Shetland from Monday August 9, when the trail is officially launched.

Organised in partnership with Wild in Art, which helped deliver Oor Wullie’s Big Bucket Trail in 2019, Light The North will be a major fundraiser for cancer support charity Clan.

The trail also aims to provide a “light in the dark” for those battling cancer and their families.

A team of Clan’s Light The North volunteers and drivers have now started delivering the 50 lighthouses to their specific locations.

Locals and visitors alike will soon be able to find out where each lighthouse is thanks to an interactive map that will be shared by the P&J and Evening Express when the trail officially kicks off.

Little lighthouses created by local schools for Light The North trail

Each of the 50 lighthouses is unique and backed by a local business. Evening Express, the P&J and Original 106 are among some of the sponsors to have their own dedicated lighthouse.

In addition to the main sculpture trail, 76 little lighthouses created by school pupils will be displayed all over the north of Scotland, including in Aberdeen Science Centre and a number of local businesses. The Evening Express and P&J will share an interactive map of the little lighthouses too.

The lighthouse sculptures were gathered and stored at Shore Porters in Aberdeen ready to be delivered and installed across the north and north-east.

More than 70 schools got involved in Clan’s education initiative which was created to give young people across the north-east, Moray, Orkney and Shetland the opportunity to get creative and help their school or group design a little lighthouse to be featured on the trail.

Lighthouse sculptures to be auctioned off to raise funds for cancer charity

At the end of this year’s Light The North trail, which will be present in each of the areas where Clan Cancer Support operates, all the main 50 lighthouse sculptures will be auctioned off to raise funds for the charity so that it can continue supporting people affected by cancer.

Looking good, Darren Hill, communications and marketing manager with Clan, helping prepare the lighthouses.

Fiona Fernie, Clan’s head of income generation and business development, said: “Clan helps people live with and beyond a cancer diagnosis, but we need your help to continue to be there for them. We’ve seen high demand for our services while facing a significant drop in our income.

“Cancer is not going away, and our services are more indispensable than ever, so we want to encourage everyone to get out and support Clan through Light The North.”

Clan’s Light The North Farewell Weekend will take place from Friday October 29 to Sunday October 31 and the auction is planned for Monday November 1.

I found this about Father Jah on cdbaby.com.

"..And the Hip-Hop industry was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the underground . . . and out of that darkness came a GOD for the Hip-Hop Universe that begot a man . . .his name . . . was Father Jah. That is just one of many introductions that can be given to this self-made, entrepreneur known simply to the world as Father Jah.

With more than 10 yr. of dominating the underground music scene, Father Jah has truly paved his own way in this world we now officially call hip-hop. Father Jah, a.k.a. Hen X the Stile, was slangin his packaged tapes of original music as a young teen in the early 1990’s, already working towards the goal of becoming one of industries next top Hip-Hop Moguls. By using his own "black owned and un-dependent philosophy", Father Jah is said to be the most self sufficient underground artists in the Midwest, mastering everything from, rhyming, producing, engineering, graphic design, artist development, retail, marketing, and promotions, as well as being a Hip-Hop Historian. In 1992 Father Jah, then known as Hen X the Stile, made his first six track EP, which he co-produced and wrote himself, entitled "Countdown to the Beatdown".

Since then, Father Jah has created several albums and worked along side numerous artist in the underground hip hop circuit. Though based in Kentucky, Father Jah has toured independently all across the United States collaborating, building, and chopping game, while simultaneously building an unstopable resume that would include collaborations with nationally known artists such as Lil Jon, Nappy Roots, M1 of Dead Prez, Imam Thug, Native, Kingpin Skinny Pimp, Dinco D of Leaders of the New School, and Shawn J of Field Mob, to modestly name a few.

Father Jah is best known for 4 unique bodies of work, "The Black Sunrise" (1999), "The Mudd Nigguhz"(2001), "The Real Nigguh Bible"(2002), and his most recent offering "Philosophies of a Modern Day Mastermind"(2008). Each of these albums documents his growth in writing, producing and arranging.By taking heed to trial and error, Father Jah has created his own formula for success based on networking, planning, a strong work ethic, balanced with an unyielding drive to out perform himself.

On his latest CD, the concept album "Philosophies of a Modern Day Mastermind", Father Jah blesses his listeners with a double CD worth of material (24 tracks total), where he uninhibitedly pounces from song to song articulating struggle, joy, progress, and pain, while still managing to cleverly quench the thirst for QUALITY hip hop entertainment. In addition to just music, the CD cover is also accompanied by the "Bad Nigguh Philosophies 1-10" which covers topics ranging from defining yourself, community/hood empowerment, snitching, hustler's unity, usage of the word nigger and what is a "bad nigguh".

In closing, what Father Jah brings to the table is a glimpse back to the era in hip hop culture when MC's sought to present their thoughts to the world, and still be fly, yet unique. With his unparalleled writing ability, commanding flow, and in your face live performances, coupled with his experience and a powerful, yet comfortable sense of identity,Father Jah might be the missing piece to today's hip hop puzzle."

I had a very inspiring and intellectually stimulating evening tonight. I stopped in to visit a local woodworker and friend of mine, Michael Roy, to view and photograph some of his recent work.

The butcher-block in this photo is one finely crafted piece! Weighing around 25lbs, hand-crafted using Maple for the platform, and a dark Walnut for the side-inserts, this piece of work is beautiful and surely close to indestructible!

The left side of the photo contains a "work-in-progress" Diamond-Willow walking cane holder, and a couple of his finished Canes. I'd never realized the time and patience put into crafting a wooden walking cane until speaking with Mike. Some of the wood is picked or cut as early as 2-4 years prior to the crafting. The canes will be placed on a drying rack for a few seasons, still wrapped in it's bark, to allow for the wood to cure and dry without any cracks or deformation.

It's always inspiring to walk through another artists' studio and view some of the "methods behind the madness". Creation is, after all, structured chaos.

I have just started the finishing process on this bowl which will be given as a wedding gift coming up in August. I will also be making some salad tongs to go with it out of tiger maple, the bowl is made from black walnut and the top rim portion is a piece of Manitoba maple burl. The have been attached with a zigzag pattern that I find quite pleasing to my eye.

Artist's Statement: "Making this camel helped to absorb my feelings of frustration, anger, and helplessness from the spring of 2003 (when the U.S. officially entered into war with Iraq) until I completed it, in January 2009 as glimmers of hope arrived with the inauguration of a new administration. As a girl growing up in the 1950s, my imagination was captured by what we now call the Middle East. Oil and Religion were not part of my daydreams. I fancied life as a Desert Nomad—traveling with a camel caravan on my spirited Arab stallion—enduring blistering heat, blinding sandstorms, and broken-promise mirages... Just in the nick of time, an Oasis would appear! Shaded by date palms, and offering cool water, the sweet song of birds, and the pungent aroma of exotic spices, I would rest in my spacious tent—resplendent with richly patterned rugs and ornaments of gold..."
