Local newspaper 'The Southport Visiter' ran successful annual charters from the mid 1980's to the early 90's. Jubilee's, Black 5's and finally 'Flying Scotsman' were the traction with experienced Newton Heath and Southport footplate crews.
In September 1989, immaculate double chimney Jubilee 45596 'Bahamas' was rostered and here she climbing the stiff grade from Lostock Junction to Westhoughton.
A Jubilee in full cry, what a wonderful sight and sound as the three cylinder roar builds to a crescendo!
My local Crossbills were very vocal this morning and I saw they were accompanied by a recently-fledged juvenile. Crossbills start nesting really early in the year so juveniles in April are to be expected, but always great to see. They are really stripy compared with the adults. This was taken near Holmfirth in the West Yorkshire Pennines.
Porticos lead to most parts of the city and beyond. They give shade in the summer and shelter in the winter and for the traditional religious procession.
Wikipedia: These are an important cultural and architectural heritage and have now been added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site. They were built as a projection of private buildings onto public land, in order to increase living space. The first historical evidence is from 1041. Originally the upper floors were expanded outwards with wood. Over the years, bigger extensions needed supporting columns thus creating the arcades. From then on, the arcades accommodated the influx of students at the University of Bologna and immigration from the countryside. In 1288, a notice from the local municipality decreed that all houses had to be built with a portico. During the Middle Ages, the arcades were made of wood, then, following a decree issued in 1568 they were rebuilt with bricks or stones. No city has more porticos than Bologna, which has 33 miles of arcades in various architectural styles.

She goes by the name of "That Blonde" on Facebook. She is truly
a fantastic singer that sings all the Patriotic Anthems. She does a great job leading the proceedings each year on the Fourth of July with her two co-singers. They all have been doing it here in Saint Augustine's center square for 30 years with a full orchestra behind them: The All-Star Orchestra. Everyone loves them for their loyal gift to our country through song, and they do a fantastic job with their ever-amazing upbeat enthusiasm as you will see in the pictures that I post of them here. Go check them out if you get a chance, you know when and where they'll be! God Bless the U.S.A.! U.S.A.!

The 8400 is on home rails as it was originally manufactured for the Western Maryland Railway in 1969 as their 7449 and later 7549 (it's Chessie number) before being rebuilt by new owner CSX into dash 2 standards and reclassified as an SD40-2.

Paris, France - September 2019: crowd of tourists and local people walking in rue Norvins, a paved street leading to the Place du Tertre, a few streets away from Montmartre's Basilica of the Sacré Cœur, in sunny day on summer. An elegant woman is making street phytography on the foreground.

After a nice beachside lunch we headed south with a stop for a rainy hike at the fabulous Riverbend Park in Jupiter. After that the plan was to head south toward Fort Lauderdale with two goals, photograph some TriRail commuter trains and visit Funky Buddha Brewing....alas only one would be achieved. I got some mid day intel from a friend that only one F40 was in rotation for the day and by the time I got that info and checked the time I realized we had an hour drive and if Google was right we'd arrive two minutes before the train.
I was hoping that TriRail ran like the T but alas they were spot on time so I had no margin of error. After just under an hour out we were 5 min from the destination when one wrong tuen sent us up the wrong Interstate ramp and that was all she wrote....the 6 min delay that incurred made the endeavor hopeless and I never got another chance as this was the sole EMD out working this day and it wouldn't return until after dark from Miami....
Feeling pretty dejected I decided to at least check if FEC had anything going on and hearing some chatter on the radio I found Fort Lauderdale local train 906 running light off the Port Everglades spur with GP40-2s 428 and 418 (built new for the railroad in Aug. 1980 and Oct. 1974 respectively). They are seen rolling west (north) on PEV1 paralleling Eller Drive beneath the tangle of ramps connecting I595 and US Route 1, the Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway. They will head up to Port Everglades interlocking at MP 343.46 and clear the north end before reversing down the East Main through the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport tunnels under runways 10R-28L to gather up a train in the east storage tracks to take down to Hialeah Yard.

I witnessed a dog walk straight up to this snake & sniff it.
The snake didn't seem to bothered and just slithered off slowly, no aggression what so ever.
I did tell the dog owners to put the dog on a lead & stick to the paths but of course they wouldn't.
Fascinating & nerve-racking to watch the interaction.
