An excursion to the south of the island of Mauritius ...

From Wikipedia -

Ganga Talao (Hindi: गङ तलओ; also known as Grand Bassin) is a crater lake situated in a secluded mountain area in the district of Savanne, deep in the heart of Mauritius. It is about 1800 feet above sea level. The first group of pilgrims who went to Ganga Talao were from the village of Triolet and it was led by Pandit Giri Gossayne from Terre Rouge in 1898.

It is considered the most sacred Hindu place in Mauritius.

There is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and other Gods including Lord Hanuman, Goddess Lakshmi, and others along the Grand Bassin. During Shivaratri, many pilgrims in Mauritius walk bare feet from their homes to the lake.

I feel like I am running out of steam this week! It was my 13 and 11 yr old boys that made me do one tonight - they said I was too close to give up!! LOL.

Haven't done a LO with a black background for a long time - feels strange.

Okay...so this is the second version of this, with all the words spelled correctly!

A truck has been reversed off the road up against a large stack of logs. Duckboards have been laid down so that the truck can safely negotiate the terrain. The truck is labelled 39426 and has 'load exceed 3 tons' written up the side. It also has a more informal name daubed across the front. Two soldiers are lifting the logs from the pile while a third secures them on to the truck. Two soldiers stand at the front of the truck chatting to each other. The stack of rough-hewn trunks in the background towers over the scene.

Sawmills were often set up close to the front line so that the timber could be made into lumber ready for use. This meant that the supply of wood would be steady and sufficient. It was also more efficient this way as all the resources were close together and then the finished product could be transported to where was necessary.

Apparently this jumbo jet (N661US) has quite an interesting history including being the first Boeing 747-400 ever produced. It has now been converted into a museum. When I took these photos, I had no idea of any of her history until years later now.

We have arrived. The famous jumbled train of airport carts piled high with Interplast supply boxes combined with our own luggage proceeds towards customs. But we hit a snag. Some part of the paperwork is screwed up, or maybe the official is just corrupt or obstructive. Lian asks me to get on my cellphone because hers is “out of money”- amazingly it works just fine- and I call Hein, who is supposed to be there waiting for us. (Not for the first time I think of our incredible shrinking world thanks to technology. The phone signal presumably goes from my phone through the Vietnam exchange to an international exchange then to Toronto, then back to international, and back to Vietnam to find Hein’s cell phone. Truly incredible) Hein answers her phone. She is allowed in, and is soon able to sort out whatever was a problem. We are on our way.
