64 Pound, rifled, muzzle loading gun. Southsea Castle.
This cast iron gun, weighing 71 cwt. (over 3,600 kilos), was made at the Royal Gun Factory, Woolwich in 1872. It is mouthed on a traversing platform. The shell's projecting copper studs engaged the grooved rifling on the inside of the barrel, causing the shell to spin and improving its accuracy and range.

The coal would be bagged and weighed on the journey and sold to lock-keepers, pubs and waterside houses.

26th May 1978 was the day I bought my first SLR camera, a Zenit EM. The beauty of Flexitime meant I could leave work early and hop on a train to Doncaster to give it a try.
One of the first pictures I took was this one, leaning out of the window of the train and shooting against the light to capture BR's new toy, Romanian-built 56010 under the coal loader at Hatfield Colliery near Stainforth.

A loader is a heavy equipment machine used in construction to move aside or load materials such as asphalt, demolition debris, dirt, snow, feed, gravel, logs, raw minerals, recycled material, rock, sand, woodchips, etc. into or onto another type of machinery (such as a dump truck, conveyor belt, feed-hopper, or railroad car). There are many types of loader, which, depending on design and application, are called by various names, including bucket loader, front loader, front-end loader, payloader, scoop, shovel, skip loader, wheel loader, or skid-steer.
With the events of the weekend, I really wanted to have something to add to my ProjectLife album. I grabbed some images online, copied a portion of Obama's speech and added it to a Cathy Z template . . . and got this quick but meaningful layout.
I'll add a 8 1/2 x 11 page protector to my album this week. I think I'll put a copy of the front page of the newspaper and some "where I was when I heard" journaling to go along with it.

Smells of the Fair say summer to me! This particular summer we didn't go to the PNE with it's mini donuts and food carts, but Playland still had its fair share of greasy smells like our lunch place, Whitespot!

While WP FP7A 805A and company wait to depart Oakland, a sizable crowd of passengers board the California Zephyr for the long trip east. Although not all are, a number of them were likely making the entire trip to Chicago. The individual in the Pontiac who turned down 3rd Street was likely going to be waiting for a while!
