I was excited when a friend positively id'd these as highbush cranberries from a photo I'd taken. I went back with another friend to pick them and when I offered him one he gagged and spit it out. I was dreaming of highbush cranberry apple butter but his reaction made me do a bit more googling before making it and I found out that, according to forager Sam Thayer, I probably found what he refers to as the "bad highbush cranberry". Glad I didn't waste my time!

My husband and my French friends know I am not a diligent student...

Live and learn - Our Daily Challenge

There's more to our identities than meets the eye. There's so much more to discover, so don't be so quick to judge. Read between the lines and immerse yourself in the grey matter.

Chandra has been performing since she was 3 years old.

After taking the other shot I staged this one for "Reflection Thursdays". It was OK but not what I really wanted. I should have reversed the two girls so the reflection on the glasses was better, and used something else in the background so the brush would stand out. Live and learn!

I'm very fortunate to have a lot of creative, talented, dedicated, enthusiastic and hard-working friends. Their awesomeness has rubbed off on me many a time. This is Andrew and he's one such friend. He's currently hard at work, directing a short film that he wrote a while back.

Over the past two months, I've noticed his beard taking over. So, I decided to investigate. From memory, the conversation unfolded like this...

Me: It's remaining there for a reason, right? As in, it's a statement, isn't it?

Andrew: Yeah, I haven't had a shave since [...] pre-production. And it's kind of stuck. I guess it's my 'directors beard'. [It] reminds me every day that I could shave, but the film isn't done."

As the image above demonstrates, he's so focused and unwilling to let anything get in the way of the execution of his vision. Not even a razor blade.

I take my hat off to thee, kind sir.

Had to smile when arrived at the lottie this morning, the sweetcorn patch looked like a bombsite. I knew badgers were munching away on others sweetcorn in the past week or two, and had spotted signs of wanderings/activity around my plot in the past, but obviously last night was his/her fine night of dining on my crop. I'd harvested some cobs at the weekend which were very tasty indeed, so at least badger has good taste!

I've now cleared the remaining sweetcorn mess, and harvested as many cobs as possible, but did leave a pile of the remaining half eaten ones and another for him/her to finish off this evening near to the compost pile.

Not too dismayed about it tho, as they have in all fairly positive, pest control role on an allotment. (eg eat slugs and many other insects, help control mice, rats and rabbits by sniffing out the nursery burrows and then consuming their young and also help to clear away old windfalls which might attract these other pests in the first place.)

So, in a way their dinner last night was a little treat for their good work so far. And if I hadn't gone up today to inspect and water, well, I'd probably have no sweetcorn left at all as once they get the scent of scrummy ripening corn, they will keep coming back and I now have a nice pile of cobs for us to munch on over the coming days ahead.

I may well fence the plot or at very least protect the vulnerable crops for next year though!

You may or may not know this, but I'm a big John Mayer fan. Really, how could you NOT be?

I've been a JM enthusiast since 'Room For Squares' (2001) all the way through to 'Paradise Valley' (2013). Let's face it, the man's gone from strength to strength from album to album with his remarkable guitar wizardry and smooth vocal abilities. In addition to this, he's one observant and charismatic personality (outside as well as inside of the music) who's intelligent commentary on a broad variety of subjects never ceases to entertain and (often) provoke further thought.

My folks are admirers of the man and his sound as well, so the three of us went to see him live in concert here in Sydney last night. The audience was on its feet throughout the entirety of the show - swaying, stepping and clapping to every beat whilst singing and humming along to every single word for well over two hours.

Needless to say, we enjoyed it thoroughly. I had seen him live four years back and there was legitimate concern between then and now that we'd never get the chance to see him live in concert again due to his promulgated health issues. However, he's come back bigger and stronger than ever and he exceeded expectation onstage with his astounding band last night. Major admiration and unlimited kudos!

Thanks for a rad night, Mr. Mayer and co. Oh yes, how could I forget? The show triggered something inside of me and I've been compelled to finally dusted off my acoustic guitar again... The power of expression via music in a flesh-and-blood environment. There's nothing quite like it, huh? Magic!
