A lith print ode to my Oregon friend Travis Doane.

Dear Travis,

It's now been 4 years since you sent me this treasure of old lithable papers from big USA to small Sweden. This kind act of yours sends a message to all the world - we belong together and should not fight. And for me it's a treasure of old lithable papers I would never get hold of otherwise. This day I have gone through the remaining papers and - as to my ability - have made prints that are supposed to be as streamlined as possible from a given negative. But of course there's always the influence of "human variability" when it comes to snatch point and so forth...

Anyways, I hope you understand my gratitude for this possibility. Have a great rest of the year 2023, Travis and may we have lith contact for many years to come.

Best/Johan

Tried some Fomaspeed Variant 313 with lith developer yesterday evening. The results really excited me: a nice slight sepia tone, lots of heavy grain and strong blacks. The paper has a nice finish too. It's fairly cheap and looks great in regular developer as well. Over all, very happy with it!

A higher dosage of Lith D requires a stronger overexposure, which leads to a more intense color. If the deep shadows are not to tip over into green, only bathe briefly in Omega.

Slowly, I left the sharp edges of the digital tools. Again, I went away from the perfect focus, exposition and exposure to a completely different way of doing things: To my first compelling way of doing this in a darkroom

In a modern world with modern tools, it is not an easy task to recreate the the look of the first photographs. This is very appealing to me: the unperfectness of different darkroom processes.

To me, Lith printing is helping me to achieve the look of the first bitumen compounds medium photographs. Maybe some will see something different emerge.
