The Linux transition is complete. After discovering that I can transfer pictures from my digital camera to this desktop with little effort I decided to give up Windows entirely.

I spent most of the morning wiping my laptop clean and reinstalling Ubuntu Linux. This is my desktop, round 2, with some minor improvements over the last screen shot.

So long Windows. I hope the door hits you on the way out.

Want a free 1-year digital subscription to Linux Journal? Here's how -- it's easy:

Watch LinuxJournal.com's daily Tech Tip videos this week (March 9 - 13, 2009) and collect the secret letters host Shawn Powers announces during the videos each day. Come Friday (March 13th 2009) unscramble the letters to reveal the secret word(s). Everyone with the correct answer who responds to publisher at linuxjournal dot com by 11:59:59PM U.S. Eastern Daylight Time March, Friday 13th, 2009 wins a free digital subscription to Linux Journal -- it's that easy!

The first video can be found here:

www.linuxjournal.com/video/upgrading-ubuntu-cutting-edge

and subsequent videos this week can be found on the front page of LinuxJournal.com or directly here:

www.linuxjournal.com/video

or better yet, for us lazy folks Linux Journal has a dedicated feed for the videos so just add the following to your RSS reader of choice:

The Austrian "Linux Weeks" (Linuxwochen) consist of a series of free lectures dealing with Linux (of course), but also with free and open source software in general. As there were lectures and workshops in the university I work on May 11 and 12, 2007, we currently display books about Linux, free flow of information and open source tools in the library.

Not very secure to broadcast the console on all seats, though!
