Draw what you hear. This was the brilliant suggestion by Rob Walker in a blog extension of his timely book “The Art of Noticing” (robwalker.net/noticing/)

I just sat on that notion for a while then yesterday, when tuning in to a virtual concert by another New Orleans’ creative, Michael Ward-Bergeman, I was moved to do just that.

A terrific concert, pairing Michael Ward-Bergeman with his collaborator/trumpet player/friend Dominik Farinacci, on Dominik’s Song Book Watch Party. (Amazing folks coming up with amazing ways of keeping life thriving, not just surviving.) (www.dominickfarinacci.com/swp-events/2020/4/1/new-orleans...)

So this is what I drew. And it was terrific fun. Moved to explore it more. Line dancing. : ) This was drawn to their rendition of “St Louis Blues”. This also relishes in Rob Walker’s encouragement that we Make Bad Art.

I love Darwyn Cooke's Catwoman and wanted to capture it in LEGO, but rather than go the traditional mosaic route, I came up with this tile line art idea.

It took a lot of trial and error to attach everything to strategically placed plates amongst the tiles, but it was worth it. I'm really pleased with the feel of the lines, and I'm already planning some new LEGO line art followups!

It measures approx 20" x 30" for anyone keeping track.

An illustration showing how to construct an isometric ellipse by compass and six circle arcs.

"Divide OA and OB each into three equal parts; draw the quadrant AC. From C, draw the line Cc through the point 1. Through the points 2 draw de at an angle of 45° with the major axis. Then 2 is the center for the ends of the ellipse; e is the center for the arc dc; and C is the center for the arc cf."
