I couldn't resist a little backlash to the colossal amount of royal blah, blah souvenir pull-outs in the newspapers at the weekend so decided to screen a little something over the actual pages.
A kind of street piece fanfare finale, I'm now happy and content, I have closure!

TUGBOAT PRINTSHOP: VALERIE LUETH & PAUL RODEN
The Deep Blue Sea (2007-2009)
series of 22 color woodblock prints: individually titled, dimensions variable
The Deep Blue Sea series are oceanic icons in a playful visual narrative exploring a challenging, unfamiliar space. Abundant curiosities are revealed by the innovative spirit probing and chronicling the vast mysterious liquid. The sea provides an appropriate allusion to the tenor of modern times--uncertainty, discovery, a new beginning. These images provide visual pleasure, while also inspiring new ways of thinking about the world in which they exist.
The other prints displayed here, America the Beautiful and Bonfire, were made for the Manifest series of political art shows. America reflects the positive, pioneering energy after the election of 2008. Bonfire imagines the common roots of mankind.
Tugboat Printshop is the collaborative efforts of Valerie Lueth and Paul Roden. Through collaboration, we feel that we have been able to simplify and streamline our message, taking the best of our respective abilities and applying them to the conception and manufacture of quality images in print.
We take art directly to people--reaching new audiences through travel, online interactivity, and direct conversation. Tugboat Printshop’s print cart is the latest manifestation of this objective.

Two Thursdays ago saw the incredibly busy launch of Nokia Pure - a new font designed by Dalton Maag. To celebrate this Nokia's branding and communications agency DesignStudio commissioned "some of the world’s leading designers and design agencies in order to obtain a collection of outstanding and innovative work" which was exhibited at The Tramshed on Rivington St, London.
I had the good fortune to exhibit alongside Alex Trochut, Bond, Build, Cartlidge Levene, DesignStudio, Non-Format, North, Practise, Studio Myerscough, Value and Service and Z.A.K. Each of us created an A1 print in edition of 20 interpreting the font in our own ways. All profits go to the British Dyslexia Association (BDA) for which, according to Creative Review, the launch raised over £3,000. Now all pieces are available to purchase online via the link below.

Surviving cancer and using art as a tool for healing, reflection and understanding has infused my art with a sense of energy and optimism that has a universal appeal. The process of making the art as well as the meaning of it, are both an integral part of the end result and for me there is always a battle to harmonize between the two – to evoke the emotion of the piece and to empower the viewer.
I love combining traditional and new media painting techniques where one feeds off the energy of the other. The visual collaboration of both medias often celebrates a bold expressionism and optimistic edge regardless of subject matter.
My work has evolved from a mashing of referenced pop art and iconic imagery into elaborate multilayered portraits and scenes that depict a more personal interpretation of my life experience, battles and passions. My goal is to lead the observer to dramatic action, putting them on the edge between what we know and what is unknowable. I’ve learned that something new will always come about when you push hard enough and the result is the revelation of a “new identity”.
The motivation for me to keep going is to gain an understanding of how this “new identity or rebirth or truth” actually reflects my life as well as the world we live in – or not.
NEW PRINT EDITION IN THE WORKS...
With my increasing passion for making screen print editions as unique as possible, this set is well, not exactly hand finished but hand started. There's nice mix up of coloured paper, distressed gold and metal leaf and some aerosol laid down to create some cool texture and colour combos.

New in my shop!!
The Stefonovich Family grew out of my boredom with the traditional roles of Barbie and her compatriots. It all began in 1980 when my Malibu Skipper doll seemlessly made the transition from wholesome teen beachbum to late night yodel/opera singing freak. She began terrorizing the other Barbies, a one girl barrage of spaztic annoyance. She was alone in her efforts to temp the other Barbies away from their bland domestication until I met my childhood best friend, who coincidentally was also named Heather. She immediately embraced my demented ideas and it was the power of our friendship as two misfit girls that was the fertile soil from which the Stefonovich Family grew. There are sixteen member that span 3 generations ranging from Great Auntie Arthritis down to the youngest; the diminutive Windex. They each had their own distinctive personalty, voice and fashion sense. It's due time that they become immortalized and emerge for the world to see in this series of portraits that I have created. It is with great pleasure that I present the first installment: Turnon.
Stefonovich Family, Fig. 12 (Turnon) is a 6 X 8.5" Gocco print on 8.5 X 11" recycled, acid free, archival quality, heavy chipboard. It is my original artwork Gocco printed in 3 layers; orange, dark rust and metallic gold ink. It is a limited edition of 50 prints and is signed and numbered. It would look great framed or hung by a clip, alone or paired with other members of the family.

As part of the show I was very proud of my The New Royal Crest of Arms piece. Timing is everything I guess as it seems even more relevant now with the IPCC and riot enquiries currently taking place.
At first glance the glass looks like a standard Royal Crest but on closer inspection the crest has been adapted to depict the London Riots of 2011 complete with a riot policeman and a hooded rioter. The etched glass was created in 6mm toughened and polished glass with holes in each corner for standoff wall fixings. It measures 760mm x 520mm and it contains some of the finest etched glass detail the glass studio has ever created. Edition of 10, 4 still available for sale from London West Bank.
