SRY 385 and consist rolls through the farm fields of Surrey, BC at the brisk speed of 35mph. 385 is the only operating SD35 in Canada and has it's heritage tied to the east coast of the United States with the railroad Seaboard Coastline.
A visit to Gloucester Docks and I managed to get this image moments before we were descended on by the local security, to be informed that we can't take photographs here! The Mariners Chapel, which apparently is off limits to anyone with a DSLR.
This isn't a staged reenactment. On many of the former USSR's less modernized lines, rail traffic is still governed by flags at stations and yard limits. In this scene, a switchman raises a yellow flag to indicate 'proceed', as 2-10-0 L-3958 enters the yard at Ostashkov.
To stimulate tourism in this economically depressed part of the country, in fall of 2018 Russian Railways made the decision to operate the regular local passenger train (6697/6698) from Bologoye to Ostashkov with steam power on Saturdays. While the idea behind it is to increase tourism, make no mistake - this a regular passenger train whose primary job is to serve as a form of local transportation. The vast majority of passengers aren't tourists, but little old babushkas just trying to get from village to village with their jars of mushrooms and pickled tomatoes. This is as authentic of an experience as you can get with a steam-hauled passenger train in the 21st century. The train takes three hours to traverse its 70-mile route and travels at speeds of 30-40 mph, making 13 stops in various villages along the way.

The 5 mph speed limit in the works siding at Clitheroe is a bit on the high side, but not as high as the 50 that the sign used to read before having its zero chopped off. 66722 waiting to leave with 6C00 for Carlisle. The gate to the siding on the right, which has been opened as the train is ready to leave, reads 'Horton Ribblesdale'.
On a crystal clear afternoon, the 452 job crawls south along BNSFs West Chicago Branchline, with a former BN GP30 up front for power.
A crumbling tholtan ruin and lone tree situated high up in magnificent Glen Dhoo exposed to the winter onslaught with a mix of snow and rain lashing down over the valley. The conditions when shooting this were absolutely appalling and it was one of those rare moments where I genuinely feared for my camera equipment. The air temperature must have been close to zero but most of the precipitation was falling as rain, very heavy rain at that! I was totally soaked down to the skin by the time I was finished and my camera geared for all intents and purposes, may as well have had a bath such was the soaking that was experienced.
I shoot with a mirrorless Nikon Z7 camera which is a 7-year-old body now but still going strong. Conditions like this goes to show the value of proper professional level weather sealing on camera gear, especially for avid landscape photographers.
This photo was an impromptu unplanned image that I captured before declaring defeat and hiking back out of the valley. It turned out to be my favourite image of the day because it perfectly captured the conditions and the desolate isolated atmosphere of this hidden valley. A bone chilling but wonderful photography experience!

Well, like the last offering of Digital Art from a Blank Canvas (DABC), this isn't straight-up and pure, as it were. Again, experimenting with PNG images and now, to boot, a Print Screen image also! Has the man got no conscience, I ask you? We're kind of rolling into a digital mixed media sort of phase, I suppose but hey! That's why I like this art form... the sky's the limit and the boundaries endless, it seems.
Of note: The Print Screen image is of a computer game that gets advertised (read: I got no choice but wait it out) when I'm playing Free Cell. I figured, if I got to sit through it, maybe I should make something of it. The game is Crazy Candy Soda, or something like that... shows how much I actually pay attention to their stupid ads.

Arenys de Munt es un municipio situado al Sur de la comarca del Maresme, que limita con el Vallès Oriental. Está formado por un conjunto de 17 entidades incluyendo el mismo Arenys de Munt, entre estas entidades encontramos Aiguaviva, Barri Nord, Barri Ponent, Can Sagrera, La Creueta, Torrent d'en Puig, Torrentbò, Els Tres Turons o Vallvidrera. La vida de la población se sitúa alrededor de la Riera de Arenys de Munt, que se ha convertido en el corazón de la población.
Los inicios de Arenys de Munt se remontan al siglo IX, cuando recibía el nombre de Sant Martí d'Arenys en honor a su parroquia, pero no es hasta finales del siglo XVI que se construye la iglesia de Sant Martí d'Arenys. De hecho, el municipio de Arenys de Munt acoge distintas edificaciones religiosas, como por ejemplo, la ermita de Santa Cecília de Torrentbò, la ermita del Remei o los restos de lo que había sido la iglesia de Sant Miquel que han quedado medio escondidos entre la vegetación. Del mismo modo, dentro del municipio de Arenys de Munt encontramos una importante presencia de casas de payés como Can Bellsolell de la Torre, Can Maiol de la Torre y Ca n'Amar de la Torre, que conservan sus torres de defensa de la planta cuadrada.
La tradición de la artesanía viene de lejos en la población de Arenys de Munt, por lo que destacamos los encajes de bolillos que se encuentran documentados desde el siglo XVII y son homenajeados en el Monumento a la Puntaire por su recorrido y por el ret fi. Por otro lado encontramos la actividad agrícola, de la cual destaca la Cirera d'en Roca, una variedad particular de cereza que se cultiva en esta población y, que se ha convertido en la protagonista de la Fira de la Cirera d'en Roca.
Por lo que se refiere a los espacios naturales, Arenys de Munt cuenta con el Parque del Corredor y Montnegre

The things we do for a daily snap! This is for the 365 treasure hunt, number 55 Sci-fi.
The game is "Small Star Empires". And what took me the longest time to do for this, was find a base plate for the tripod! Perhaps the tripod should get more use .... maybe next year :)

Viel Glück hatte ich an der Bastei. Hier wurde gerade ein Filmdreh durchgeführt. Es ist für die WAPO ELBE ein Teil gedreht worden. Die Serie läuft im MDR und diese Folge soll im Jahre 2024 ausgestrahlt werden.
Ein enormer Aufwand an Material und Zeit steckt dahinter. Schwere Filmkameras wurden an selbstgebauten Seilaufzüge in die Höhe transportiert. Kameramann und Assistenten hingen alle in der Wand. Spannend!
