Tonight we went to a Yuri Gagarin party at a big mansion in Cupertino. Oh, so much creativity! This lady had a scary Klingon look.

I processed a balanced HDR photo from a RAW exposure, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate your critical feedback.

A re-visit of a shot from last December involving a motherboard and a blown out background. It started as just my hand but it wasn't interesting enough for me so I copied the pose from last year.

Worked out exposure for blowing out the background and lighting the board. I had to make a bit of a sacrifice on the blown out area as the light was bleeding onto my face and hand too much so had to bump up exposure and highlights in LR and drop the shadows.

Framed for me and noted position and focus point. Repeated for the board and cracked on.

Bulb mode and F8 on the Samyang and fired the shutter. Large dose of powerful torch from behind the board and then lit the front with a snooted torch gelled red at an oblique angle from left and right. Cap on and moved the board. Re-focused and took up position, cap off and fired the flash with my radio trigger with my spare hand. 1/8th power @70mm.

Job done.

At a loss again on the ideas front I got the feather out. Lit from one side with the lenser with a piece of A3 paper curved up the back for a seamless transition. Positioned the lenser so that it illuminated the feather but also created a shadow on the paper which mimicked the form of the feather.

Into photoshop again for some more practise with dodge and burn.

Me dejo llevar por tu canto, por la respiración que coloniza tu piel al antojo de tu vientre. En este día varado, los extremos son tan cercanos como tus brazos a la simiente de la boca. En esta tierra, tu credo es una forma en la que soñar con estrellas.

If Madonna had "4 minutes" to save the world, I had 6 hours and 19 minutes!! This is how my Friday ended for me!! How about yours? If you're viewing this via your "favorites" with only 1 or 5 pictures at the time, like I usually do myself, please note you'll be missing a lot as there are 15 pictures in this series. Go to my photostream, or my blog, where music is included and a few extras... :

Have a great weekend!!

:)

Lauren came home from work and asked if I was going out tonight. As we all know this is as good as a pass.

Loaded the car up and headed out formulating a plan as I drove. I knew I wanted to go to the kiln as its ideal for a solo jaunt as I can use a flashgun and vape combo for the back light.

I bagged a couple of test shots, one of which I almost picked over this one then came the dreaded voices from the darkness. It always bumps the heart rate up a notch or two but it turned out to be Stephen E and Andrew M. Both avid light wavers and thoroughly nice chaps and great company. Cheers Stephen for your assistance with the lens swap. Always tricky on your own.

Rotated the lp brush Bokeh 4 ways with the Samyang 50mm @1.4 then swapped to the Tokina @12mm. Stephen took off the lens cap and I jumped in the air and fired the flash gelled Aldi bathroom and toilet cleaner orange.

Just noticed this is my 1000'th Flickr upload. No way.

Tidy nights light waving with Chris T on the Monsal trail again. We could visit this area again and again and still not run out of new places to shoot. I love it.

This one was a classic case of a shot just growing out of nothing. I knew I wanted to do a double with dead space inside my hood but didn't know what to fill it with.

Took the socked and skirted beauty dish with me and attached it to my flash directly above my head pointing down on 1/8th power. Next Chris very kindly stood behind me with a bare flashgun in each hand on 1/32 power, 105mm for the rim around my hood. Tested this till happy then went for it. I fired the shutter which in turn fired the flashes. I held position whilst Chris waved the net curtain behind me. Cap on and re-focused for the eye parts. Chris again waved the nets behind me in two pre determined spots and that was that.

Straight out of the camera.......and into LR for some very minor adjustments. Gambleraw conversion.

Fountains Abbey again next weekend for which I'm very exited to get back. Happy days.

We headed up to the Mount Hamilton Grandview Restaurant for a sunset shoot on a stormy day. This restaurant is located high above the Silicon Valley on Mt. Hamilton, and has a gorgeous view over San Jose and the valley. I took this shot of my friend as the sun was going to settle.

I processed a balanced HDR photo from a RAW exposure, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, then desaturated the image. I welcome and appreciate your critical feedback.

Been to a new spot this evening with my mate Paul. Its close to my usual haunt on the Monsal Trail but another Lime Kiln which doesn't provide much shelter from ambient light. Now the nights are finally drawing in I could take advantage of the early darkness.

Started with a bit of tent based lp (which I'll post later) and once happy with that one I wanted to use some greenery which is slowly taking back this area. Found the most photogenic piece of Ivy I could lay my hands on and attached it to my light stand. Framed and focused for the fire silhouette and then positioned the ivy to kiss the first third of the frame and refocused the Tokina @16mm. Lit the ivy from below and tested exposure. 2 seconds of exposure between lens cap and 20 degree rotations x 18. Cap on and zoomed out to 11mm and re-focused. Paul into position and cracked out the net curtain and torch set to yellowy orange to compliment the green of the foliage. Waved that about for a bit and made my way behind the camera to light the walls of the Kiln.

Home for a brew and some banana cream pie vape.

Happy days.

The sun falling behind some fan palm trees creates beautiful lines and colors...if you're looking closely. I walked by these trees the whole time I was in Florida without noticing the stunning details. Sometimes you just have to slow life down to see what you've been missing.

Was raining hard that day, and through a window at my work place, I saw the sun ligth coming out from the clouds.

You know the script by now. An extruded fractal exposed from the tablet screen followed by the beams. Move tripod and zoomed out then span a dome for every 30 degrees.

Polishing off the dome tool as back off to the big tunnel on Saturday to try and nail a shot which has bugged me for a while.
