We came across numerous Blue Birds today, in Contra Loma. It was a beautiful day at Contra Loma once the overcast skies cleared and the sun shone through. The brilliant blue-and-rust Western Bluebirds sit on low perches and swoop lightly to the ground to catch insects. Deep blue, rusty, and white, males are considerably brighter than the gray-brown, blue-tinged females.
"Hate on me, 'cuz I'm "too nice"
Act deaf if you say it twice
Didn't come for that cheap hype
You can keep that wit' your shelf life
Legacy like Gucci stripe
THC is my only vice
You don't feel me, then that's fine
Then get back in the kitchen like a "good wife".
It's a sweet life
Sweet potato pie
Everybody wants some
Gotta' sweet life
My design
take that to the bank." - Qveen Herby ♫

As stated in the previous shot in the stream, the entire train that this southbound brought down from Oakfield was to be dropped in Millinocket proper for the CMQ. After putting the train away in two tracks in the yard, the crew of the second 910 of the day got a clearance to head south to Brownville Junction. The snow was still lightly falling as the EMD trio rumbled light across North/South Twin Lake, capping off an excellent chase of these guys from Oakfield. I've only had success here one other time, and that was last year in quite similar conditions.

This week's theme is Water.... There is no form of water I find more beautiful than snow. Luckily living in Canada there is an abundance of it (at least for 2 to 3 seasons of the year). This theme is part 1 of 4 of the classic elements (fire, water, earth, wind/air). We were asked to consider how they might also be linked to one another within the photo. In ancient times, earth referred to a solid..... so snow - would it have been Earth or Water?
This morning I had the joy of waking to this beautiful light on my balcony lightly glazing some snow. Amazing the little joys you can have in the morning that get you out of bed :)
(pst.... it's better in lightbox or made large)

I hit the back roads for the first time in awhile this morning. It was chilly, with a light trace of snow on the ground, when I set out. This old barn is at the eastern end of George Bryant Road in the Silver Leaf community: one that I have passed by with my camera countless times, and never really paid much attention to it until today. It is about two miles from where I grew up, so I'm very familiar with it, and perhaps seeing it all the time from childhood is why I'd never given it much of a thought.

Cromer Pier, Norfolk The sunrise wasn't the best due to the lack of clouds but the golden hour was very pleasant. I used a little stopper to extend the shutter speed to lightly blur the water. I wanted to edit this with soft pastel colour casts that combined with the milky water would make a really subtle but impactful image.
Park Ave is a pretty solid spot when catching the eastbound RBMN excursions. Given this was the first fall foliage excursion of the season, crowds weren't as heavy compared to the day after. Regardless, a small gathering of rail fans grab their shot of the 425 'rounding the bend near Nesquehoning, PA.
Lightly used 1925 Bugatti in the pit garages at Goodwood. Appears to be missing some dials, hope thy weren't important ones.

This morning the green fists of the peonies are getting ready
to break my heart
as the sun rises,
as the sun strokes them with his old, buttery fingers
and they open —
pools of lace,
white and pink —
and all day the black ants climb over them,
boring their deep and mysterious holes
into the curls,
craving the sweet sap,
taking it away
to their dark, underground cities —
and all day
under the shifty wind,
as in a dance to the great wedding,
the flowers bend their bright bodies,
and tip their fragrance to the air,
and rise,
their red stems holding
all that dampness and recklessness
gladly and lightly,
and there it is again —
beauty the brave, the exemplary,
blazing open.
Do you love this world?
Do you cherish your humble and silky life?
Do you adore the green grass, with its terror beneath?
Do you also hurry, half-dressed and barefoot, into the garden,
and softly,
and exclaiming of their dearness,
fill your arms with the white and pink flowers,
with their honeyed heaviness, their lush trembling,
their eagerness
to be wild and perfect for a moment, before they are
nothing, forever?

I have mixed emotions about this photo. In order to shoot it from this angle I climbed up a tree and ended up laying on it for half an hour. The next day I realized that the tree was covered in poison oak and it resulted in a serious allergic reaction for the next three weeks. It would probably be a good idea for me to learn about all the poisonous plants in the area, don't want this happening again.

Massive 180 tonne TEM7A-0125 road switcher, a bo+-bo-bo+bo, that is eight axles and eight traction motors powered by a V12 engine developing 2000hp, rolls deep mined coal east bound from Shaktinsking on the industrial lines serving the collieries around Shakhtinsk to the Coal Enrichment plant no.1, a journey of around 20km on lightly laid jointed track, here crossing the R191 road by Novodlinskyy west of Karagandy. Wait...
We did not wait long.
Straight out of Shaktinsk station, turn right towards the mines.
Stop.
There is a ventilation shaft, beautiful in its way set against the soft grey light.
White building topped by winding gear topped by a red star.
I venture forward and take two pictures.
A black 4x4 stops behind our car.
Big Man gets out.
Questions.
Our answers do not satisfy.
Ochrona is called.
Now we wait....
How long?
We did not count.
The pickup screeches to a halt, three men leap out. One boss two lads. All shouting.
Documents, passports, where are you from?
Aparat, camera, he has it.
Gesturing at me.
I had put it in the boot.
I show them, they say delete.
Big Man leaves satisfied.
Now Ochrona gets chatty.
One chews tiny green balls from a small brown bottle.
I ask what, he says bad, with a grin.
All calmed down but..
We must leave this area.
Oh for that deep mining backdrop.
But down there, below.
There are people who no longer have to wait.
And here is the shaft courtesy of Mr AC:
Abstract Macro shot of two silicone pastry brushes with a deliberate in camera movement which has blurred the bristles and merged the two brushes into one, which was an unexpected result, HMM!
