The RE.LIGHT Festival took place in Regensburg for the first time from 14 to 24 March 2024. From nightfall, works by international artists will be on display in Regensburg's old town and Stadtamhof. These can be viewed on a tour. They bathe well-known objects in fascinating light.

The church on Neupfarrplatz is the projection surface for "Forever and ever" by Julia Shamsheieva. The artist describes the eternal nature of existence, in which everything is interconnected and constantly evolving. The work encourages us to restore the disrupted harmony before it is too late. It is essential for humanity to preserve and protect nature instead of destroying each other and the whole world.

Vom 14. bis 24. März 2024 fand in Regensburg zum ersten Mal das RE.LIGHT Festival statt. Ab dem Einbruch der Dunkelheit sind in der Regensburger Altstadt und in Stadtamhof Arbeiten internationaler Kunstschaffender zu sehen. Diese können auf einem Rundgang betrachtet werden. Sie tauchen bekannte Objekte in faszinierendes Licht.

Die Kirche auf dem Neupfarrplatz ist die Projektionsfläche für »Forever and ever« von Julia Shamsheieva. Die Künstlerin beschreibt die ewige Natur der Existenz, in der alles miteinander verbunden ist und sich ständig weiterentwickelt. Die Arbeit regt dazu an, die gestörte Harmonie wiederherzustellen, bevor es zu spät ist. Es ist für die Menschheit essentiell, die Natur zu erhalten und zu schützen, anstatt sich gegenseitig und die ganze Welt zu zerstören.

It's not that I like getting up before dawn to take photos. It's that I haven't gone to bed yet, so I drive into the countryside to catch the magnificent dawn light (& sometimes fog) before I go to sleep.

Balloon clock, inkwells and brass oil lamps. Image lit by the (now electrified) lamps themselves, plugged into lamp faders from a hardware store to vary their output. ISO800. Processed in PS.

Light painting at Stratford upon Avon mop fair - Oct 2016

Taken in the West Village in New York.

Light painting this old Desoto that I saw parked in a church parking lot across from the local home center. I used led lenser, ryobi and coast flashlights for the lighting. I was pleased with the way this came out. I had envisioned it looking like this, but was not sure exactly what to do, so it took a little experimenting.

Shot with a basic kit

A really peaceful place, the site of the light tower, at the southern end of Salamina island in central Greece, was a nice opportunity for a short escape from Athens, which is nearby. A long exposure shot was used, to flaten the water and give an overall calm atmosphere, despite the grey sky...

Morning casting shadows through the window

A frosty morning on the Common just before dawn and a chance to capture a light pillar. These pillars of light are caused by light reflecting from ice crystals in the atmosphere. It wasn't until i was looking through my photos later that I noticed that several pre dawn images had this pillar of light above the rising sun. A regular occurance in colder climates but much less so in the uk.

Wish id cleaned the car before taking this. First attempt at painting light onto a subject, look forward to trying it again.
