Light Trail Abstract...so earlier this year on a dark day, I had a play making some coloured light trails but have only just found this image. Any opinions ?
A passing October storm suddenly clears allowing the sun's light to illuminate the iconic Looking Glass Rock and the Pisgah National Forest below.
As I was tracking this storm near Graveyard Fields hoping for some light rays to break through, I fell into continued despair as the rain kept coming down and I soon had to get back to work after taking the morning off.
Then suddenly, the rain ceased and all went quiet. I jumped out of my car and began scanning the sky and East Fork valley for any source of light. Nothing.
Then something caught the corner of my eye - a spark - a gleam of light visible through the skyline above. But not where I was in any position to photograph it.
I hurried back into my car and began heading north on the Blue Ridge Parkway. My anticipation grew for what I was hoping to catch, along with my anxiety that the magic moments would pass before I would have an opportunity to catch anything.
As I was coming down the parkway, I began to see crepuscular rays breaking through the clouds, but there was nowhere to pull over. I continued further and finally came upon a surprisingly empty parking lot at the Looking Glass Rock overlook.
With drizzles of rain still abound, I hurried out of my car, grabbed my camera and began scanning the scene for compositions.
It was amazing to see the light glow on the valley as the storm was clearing in the distance.
Shooting handheld with a reverse graduated filter, I was having to constantly wipe off drops of rain the hit the glass while also making sure my hand was steady enough not to cause any blur to the frame.
When the clouds fully cleared and the light became too harsh, I cleaned up my gear and got back in my car, adrenaline pumping. I said a quiet prayer that I had at least gotten one sharp photo from this incredible show of nature.
The image featured for this post was my favorite, and it's moments like these that make me venture out again and again.
I hope you like this image and that you will have a great start to the week ahead.
Thank you for stopping by to view my images, and may the light be ever in your favor!

A late night out at Elk Island National Park. It was almost pitch black when this photo was taken. The lake surface is illuminated by light emitted by the city of Edmonton some fifty kilometres (thirty miles) away.
This is the same as the previous shot but without the blurred one overlaid... the pink light on the buildings is the sun coming up behind me.
And if you feel that you can't go on. And your will's sinkin' low
Just believe and you can't go wrong.
In the light you will find the road. You will find the road (*)

The commencement of a short collection. This shot and the few that follow is taken in a building that is undergoing rennovation.
Photography is a great uniter of countries, cultures, neighborhoods, families and friends. I’ve started a group named Photo-Phactory. Please share your best images with me.
This light hangs in my office at home. I'm pretty sure it's original, dates from when the house was built. If so, it's 97 years old. The petals are milk glass, the central circle is clear pebbled glass, and it's topped off (bottomed off???) with a bullet-shaped brass nut.
A single LED Knog bike light (white) hung from a piece of string, 30 second exposure of it swinging.

Some bridge somewhere in Rome. What interested me more than the beautiful structure of the bridge was the dance of the early morning light on the tree. I wanted to use the leaves as a frame through which you glimpse the bridge and its reflection in the water.
Light a candle
for the old man who sits staring
out a frosty windowpane
Light a candle
for the woman who is lonely
and every year is the same
for the children who need
more than presents can bring
Light a candle
light the dark
light the world
light a heart or two
light a candle for me
I'll light a candle for you
Light a candle
for the homeless and the hungry
a little shelter from the cold
Light a candle
for the broken and forgotten
may the season warm their souls
can we open our hearts
to shine through the dark
May peace on earth surround us here
and teach us there's a better way to live
and with every (every) flame that burns
we must somehow learn
that love's the greatest gift
that we could ever give.....
Light a candle
light the dark
light the world
light a heart or two
light a candle for me
i'll light a candle for you (I will)
oh, I'll light a candle for you

Pawns.
I have this theory that totally blurred pictures are a much underrated genre of photography. Like all theories it needs extensive testing :)
So far so good. I am less convinced about the peer review though...
Another one from the set last Saturday, deliberately unfocused (honestly... I worked out how to change it to manual focus. Eventually... :) ).
The real question, of course, is is this a picture of pawns, or is it a picture of the light around pawns? Answers on a postcard (preferably with a sizeable cheque attached, but I'm not fussy - any sized cheque is good...).
For the Thursday Monochrome group and for my 100x Monochrome and Toned.
Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy Thursday Monochrome, and also MBT :)
