I guess this is the dinner bell. When people go out on the lake they ring it to call people back to the shore.
I took this when we visited our friend who lives on Cayuga Lake.

I saw this great light fixture at a house having a garage sale earlier this summer. I can't remember if this was for sale or not, but this is nice. Looks like something from the 1970s or 1980s.

I built the shade for this light fixture from rat traps. The two bulbs are inside octagonal housings made of mousetraps.
I'm posting this because I just learned of a group called Light Fixture(s) That I Made. Check it out. Lots of very cool lights.

Taken in the operating room at the former Marine Hospital in Memphis TN. The Marine Hospital Service was enacted by Congress in 1798 to care for sick seamen. A tax was levied to fund the system, $.40 per month (in 1886) from every man working on a registered ship. As such, it was one of the first examples of federally mandated health insurance in the U.S.
The fiscal report from 1886 shows that the tax revenue totalled $508,409, and Service expenditures were $433,975. The surplus returned to the U.S. Treasury. In that year, 43,822 patients were helped.
By 1886, the System had 19 affiliated hospitals, all located near ports or waterways. The Memphis hospital is located on a bluff with a beautiful view of the Mississippi river.
I got a bit bored w/ one of the monotonous pieces performed this evening (my daughter's orchestra already finished playing) so I took a photo of the ceiling of the Schultz Cultural Arts Hall in Palo Alto, CA.
Plausible situation garnered from viewing this photo: The kitty cat sits in the doorway admiring the fan's 100% gavanized blades for 18 hours a day.
You can put the sign anywhere. Or you can put the lightfixture anywhere. But never should they meet in the same place.

Inside the glass pyramid on the right is Imagination!, another building we didn't have time to explore but looked pretty cool from the outside.
